Here we are, 3 matches completed and still no World Cup thread on RFF?

Congratulations to So. Korea for earning the first victory this morning 2-0 over Greece.

Yes, yes, yes.... World Cup Soccer, Football for many, is absolutely not photography or rangefinder related. But, as the biggest "positive" event scheduled for 2010, and with our large international membership, I am sure it is in the forefront of many of our minds. RFF is often described as an escape, so is a huge event like the World Cup.

So, here it is, The Official RFF World Cup 2010 Thread. It will stick around in the Members Only forum until the champion is crowned, and then moved to the Off Topic Forum for archiving. But for now, let's have some fun.

Is there anyone in South Africa? Love to see some photos from the venues and host cities. Extra points if you can provide some of the sights from the parties in the cities where Brazil is playing. 😎

Stick with Baseball I hear there's a new pitcher in Washington . 103 MPH almost as fast as certain West Indian cricketing fast bowler I remember.
Oh yes the best half time spread for us snappers was always at Upton Park
but you had to get there by train or lose your licence driving back .(DUI)

I'm sure that you will do well against 'England', however I get the feeling that they may be a bit too strong for you. They are the only British team to have qualified so USA will probably have lots of support from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales 😀 but I don't that that will be of any great help against Rooney and Co.

I haven't woken up before 11am all summer. Last night I set my alarm for 8am, thinking I wouldn't be able to get up at 7 to see the first match; to my surprise, my internal alarm woke me up at 6:58.

So far the South Korean side looked the most polished. Argentina's defense has been shaky, even against the very weak Nigerians. I see Messi scoring at least one goal in this second half. They can't sit on a one goal lead.

USA is going to get embarrassed today... We should just disband our program

The Argentina vs Nigeria match isn't half bad - Messi's been providing lots of excitement and the Nigerian keeper has been doing well to keep him off the score sheet.

Now if only the 19 yr old Haruna can scare something up for Nigeria 🙂

UK vs USA later today should be good - I hope the UK wins 🙂

Ahhw nobody should be embarrassed its a game after all. I hope the USA team provides us with a good entertaining match and they can walk off proudly... but defeated.

I don't know much about soccer except you score a point when you kick the ball through the net, much like hockey I suppose? Anyhow I'm kind of interested because of trash talk I heard on the radio yesterday of a US win over England will be some sort of consolation of what BP has done to the Gulf. I'm not really sure of that unless they can use a soccer ball to plug the pipe!

I'm expecting England to start in their usual fashion ... an embarrassing draw against a side they should beat easily.

Fortunately, I may be English but I am not a great fan of our so called national game. I might look in on the TV later, just to see that they are not going to let me down and win. After all, they know it will only prolong the agony.

Oh no! 3 points for the winning team. 1 point for the team if it's a draw. At least now in the group phase where there are four teams in every group and the first two of a group enter the final KO-round with 16 teams.

I thought I would try you on Cricket:

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!​

A very 'English' game although, as usual, once we taught the damned foreigners to play they have the affront to beat us with annoying regularity 😀
