Kaka did not exactly do absolutely nothing - he tackled a opponent with his elbow, and he made double sure the referee noticed (who initially seemed to lean towards disregarding it). My guess is that he wanted (or was under orders) to get ejected for the next game to get rid of his yellow card, which would otherwise have stuck on for another two rounds of more critical games.

I agree... That's why he allowed the referee see him misbehaving a bit... And that's why he was happy and smiling all the time before and after the second card...

I do not think KaKa was trying to do it intentionally. He is not match fit yet and needs more time on the field. He did not deserve that second yellow. But that is soccer and anytime the rules give all authority to one person anything goes. What really distubed me about the game was Fabiano's second goal when the referee indicated he had used his arm (twice actually!) in the making of that goal! I was amazed the referee allowed it and then is smiling and telling Fabiano that it was a hand ball!!

Are you blind? The second yellow was for a "foul" whereby the Cote d'Ivoire player deliberately ran into Kaka. Kaka, not even moving, merely raised his arm against his body in a reflexive protective stance. I would think something that obvious would be, well, obvious.

I didn't see the incident. Here's what an AFP report says:


"...but goal-scorer Elano is expected back in the side despite having been stretchered off after a heavy knock to his right leg on 67 minutes at Soccer City.

I did not interpret it this way. I believe the ref asked Fabiano if he had used his arm to control the ball because he could not clearly see it from his point of view. This resulted in the weird exchange but had the ref seen clearly the arm control, he would had whistled. He left it to the benefit of the doubt, which is how it should be in football. Not seen = not whistled.

Keita will probably be suspended for that after the fact. Cheaters like him have nothing to do in football. I can understand one trying to fake a penalty but simulating a punch is just whiny and classless.

Thank Gawd for that. It looked bloody awful in slo-mo.

I am with Yanidel on the hand ball. If the ref doesn't see it & gets no back up from the linesmen/4th official... 'it didn't happen' ...in the context of the game and the players seemed to accept this as well. No one actually involved in the game (bar one) knew of it was foul play or not - and he wasn't about to come clean, was he?

As for the Keita incident, he will (I hope) be sorted out by the 'powers that be', just like Kaka's old team mate Rivaldo was after this...

Mmh, probably you do not understand the whole sense of football and the rules. The second yellow card was correct. Kaká used the elbow, is yellow card in all the world, including 'american soccer'.

Nonetheless the level of referees in this cup sucks. The NZ goal was offside for instance. The double Hand of Luis Fabiano not even noticed by the lineman? The referee have doubts, and asked to the player, in case of doubt talk to your assistant!

I love Brasil, the play just when they want to do it. Someone have mentioned that stars earn millions and they do not feel the 'national shirt'. I do not agree. Just see Robinho en Brasil, Santa Cruz in Paraguay, Tevez in Argentina, Forlan in Uruguay... they earn millions playing in Europe, and they play with a lot of feeling. I remember the whole supporters of Manchester United cheering 'Argentino, Argentino' for Tevez in 2009 when they've obtained the premier league. You feel proud of the game or not, is not a question of money.

They care about bank accounts and national shirt, they are able to do both things in good way.

I really want a final match against Brasil, and I have friends from Brasil whishing the game against Argentina. The rivality between us is tremendous.

Tango or Samba? who will prevail?

I love Borges and Sábato and Charly and Fito and Lionel and Diego, so I know what I want... But after seeing both teams in their two first matches, both of them are working and are strong and will be stronger... I guess if that final was played five times in the next weeks, we'd see different results every time, so I wouldn't even know what to expect... But the idea of that final makes my blood run faster... In our latin world that final has been the dream of generations...

tomorrow's games should be exciting... hopefully Ronaldo runs circles around N Korea. Chile has Alexis Sanchez who is maybe the most exciting player in the tourney, and Spain needs a win.
 
I think Spain will come back home very soon... If they start winning and get to the next part of the cup, their first match would be against Brazil or Ronaldo's Portugal if things happen in a normal way, so nothing's easy...

My dear Atto, I'm sure you didn't mean to be condescending; perhaps the language difficulty is to blame. My apologies for assuming. You couldn't know, of course, that I've followed football all my life. My uncle was a keeper in the Bundesliga. And, I am quite familiar with the traditions and rules of the game.

As to the tantalizing prospect of a South American final; I'm quite excited about the prospect. Though, I suspect that die Mannschaft will have something to say about that.

Chile is the key there. Spain is one of the favourites to win the cup. Chile have a great opportunity to defeat Switzerland and obtain a draw against Spain, I know the way of thinking of Bielsa, and probably he is 'playing' the match against Spain for the last three months.
Another scenario, two draws against Switzerland and Spain. At the same time Switzerland beats Honduras and bye bye Spain?
Spain finishing 2º face Brasil. Honestly I do not want to see out of the cup Spain or Brasil so so early.
I prefer traditional teams playing quarter finals, not facing each other in the next round, but the poor perfomance of some of those teams are making really hard the thing.

Juan, my choice is Borges, Charly and Diego. Let´s make a deal, you support for Argentina, I support for Spain as much as possible. If Argentina wins the cup, the rambla of Barcelona will be crowded with argentineans!
