(...) Argentina got a grip in the later stages of the first half but once Germany scored the second goal it was all over.

Yes, that was when I got very nervous. Argentina was very near the 1:1, but then all went very well. :)

Schweinsteiger played extremely well, and Mertesacker had found back his usual form. Özil was not as good as in the England match but still... All in all a great team performance: 4:0 against Argentina -- amazing! :D

Credit to Argentina for being gracious in defeat, unlike Brazil yesterday.

Yes, they are great sportsmen. Contrary to my worries the whole game was quite fair.

I feel a little sorry for Juan (and for Maradona!) -- his fears came true, I guess. I hope he and every Argentinian and every Argentina fan will support Germany now in the next two games! (But I imagine both Paraguay and Spain might be nearer to your heart.)

More than Argentina I like Messi... Now that he's out, the best soccer is being played by Germany... Spanish players are below their level by now... It would be a miracle if any team beats Germany.

Cheers,

Juan.

Oh, thank you, I'm quite confident 'we' will beat Spain or Paraguay, but in a final between Holland and Germany anything could happen!

Yep! That would be a new one in the continuing series of archetypical football clashes.... Let's see, who won the last match... ;)

Near Independence Square in downtown Montevideo, just before the match Uruguay-Ghana. A large screen was set in the square. The city went crazy after the match ended.

Congratulations Germany, you deserved. Remarkable performance. Not chance for us. I suffered a lot but I know that Germany obtained with any doubts, in this world cup with awful referees, you do it clearly.

The end for us, good luck Germany you deserve the cup.

Now my heart is with La Celeste, Vamos Uruguay, brothers the best for you!

My youngest kid flew into Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego from Mexico last night and got up this morning to watch the match with the locals. She describes the Argentinians as being "very upset".

She's going to be seeing a lot of Argentina (& Uruguay) the next two months. She also told me she'll be rooting for Uruguay... :)

Ok Uruguay now gets my sympathy vote as the weakest of the lot. Especially since my nephew asked me "Why do these guys hold a flag that says U R GAY?" :D

Vamos La Celeste!
