The OP

Thanks for the post. I've read Gene's blog for a few years now. He's an excellent writer, and he covers lots of subjects in his blog, including photography, literature, music, life in general.

Its fun to 'watch' Gene's passion for camera gear move around in very much the same way mine, and many others here, have done. I believe he has shifted predominantly to digital now.

Yea, Gene is a pretty decent guy with a very good eye for seeing a photo and getting it. He is/was a member here at one time. Pretty darned good at writing too.

That's a great post. I'd agree that the ones to stay away from are ones with dying meters and odd batteries.

Great deals can be found with cameras with working selenium meters, whose fine tuning can be adjusted by a manual ASA/ISO dial.

Really nice guy ... he bought a camera off me quite a while ago. I seem to remember he had some sort of health crisis a little while ago but came through it ok!

I think FrankS has spent a lot of time with him.

Yes, I read that article by Gene a number of years ago, and it led, um, to a major attack of GAS. Gene is a great guy and a very wise photographer, and I've enjoyed his blog over the years. I wish he posted here more. He also posts over at flickr.
