Some of you may have seen this outfit on eBay for sale recently.

It ended up going to me for about what you would expect if you keep a watch on Contax I selling prices. The only reason I went for it was that I think I knew something about it that other bidders did not know, and that is the fact that its previous owner had Henry Scherer tune it up, which to me made it worth a lot more than it would be otherwise.

It does function as it should, just as my Scherer-rebuilt Contax II and IIa cameras do.

She looks like she has another 80 years worth of great pictures in her!

Please keep use in the loop as to her journey.

Fabulous purchase. You are going to have to use it. M

Oh yes I am going to use it as much as possible, I love shooting film and using the classic Contax cameras.

The reason I go to the trouble to have Henry Scherer-ized Contax cameras is because being a mechanic myself I know how machinery can hurt itself in use if it is not clean and lubricated, and we all know Sherer's cameras have the least probabliity of hurting themselves in use as is possible.

Because I love machinery I will not abuse it for personal gain, I would feel bad about myself using a work of art like a Contax that is grinding itself to pieces and just running because I squirted lighter fluid in it.......

Also the light-meter is very responsive, I will have to test it and see how it compares to my Nikon f2 etc. and I am sure I could use it once I know what asa number to use with it. I used an old Weston meter earlier this year I just had to set it to a slower film speed than I was using to get correct metering. No problem........

I once nearly bought a Contax I, but the "worries" that come with owning such a camera kept me at bay. You did a wise thing by getting a camera that already has been prepped for the next 20 years to be without any worries. Congrats.

I have a buttery-smooth, 100% functioning IIA Black Dial, 50mm f2 Sonnar, 21mm Biogon and 85mm f2 Sonnar that Henry sold me a couple of years ago that's got to be one of the smoothest working Contax outfits around. Just a pleasure to use.

Congratulations on the your really nice looking Contax I.

I agree. After winding up the shutters on all three Scherer-tuned Contax I, II and IIa cameras, the IIa seems to feel mechanically "happiest" of all three, like the design of it's mechanism lets it get the job done more easily.

I mentioned this to Henry after winding up the II and IIa and He did not seem to think it was worth dwelling upon and assured me that the Contax II was a sturdy design that was not hurting itself in operation when properly serviced.
