That's what I don't understand.... You love those Ps, yet managed to loose them all...![]()
I could never understand that either... why you didn't save one of them. I can, of course, understand if it was a money situation, but they are such endearing little picure takers....

The 35 framelines are a challenge to see with glasses. I liked my 50mm Leica Summitar the best for this camera.
I've been using a lot of different lenses on the Canon P. The Summarit is well balanced on it, and the Nikkor fits nicely with the vented shade.
The collapsible lenses hit the plate underneath the RF coupling. No dents- just mar the black paint. So- no collapsing the Summicron and Summitar on it.
Some day Joe will rePent.

i blame it on frank s (
i was content with my gear but when the zi arrived at my door i was completely seduced by it's 'new' ness and started on the rocky road of not appreciating the older gear.
it was so nice to have lenses that didn't have a rattle or that not quite firm as new feeling. the viewfinders were so much bigger, brighter and so clear to these old eyes.
i admit that i do miss the p and especially my 35/2.8 lens but i live with it and i do love the r4a and the zeiss ikon, no doubt.

That's why I'm afraid to buy any really new stuff. Although, looking through the P vewfinder I can see why the ZI could lure you away from one. And besides, as a gearhead I like to try out a lot of different things. And older cameras are much cheaper than a new ZI or MP.
(Yeah, I won't take a bet on whether I'll ever buy a ZI or MP. I'm sure I'll own one once they are cheaper, or I sell a bunch of stuff I don't need to fund a purchase of one. Or both.)

i also love the fun of changing gear and trying new stuff. lord knows i have tried more than many when it comes to lenses and bodies.
but i am not all that flush with $$ and usually have to sell in order to buy and i rarely become emotionally involved in the gear. it's all great and i love to play.
maybe if i win the lottery i can set up a separate room or two devoted to gear...

Hama time!
Hama time!
Well I did it - bought a Canon P that was attached to a lens I wanted, figuring I'd sell the camera and pay for the lens. BUT I COULDN'T DO IT! The cameras was good but needed a CLA, while the lens was is not so good shape. So it was Hama-Time - off to Mark Hama to fix it all up, see what he can do about the lens. The camera was too beautiful to give up. So now there are two in my collection, or will be, when it gets back from its trip to GA.

That's how I got my second CL and the Summicron-C. What lens did you end up with?

Al- It was the lowly Canon 50/1.8 - but the combine price was a bargain. Now I have someone offering me a Canon 50/1.4 at another bargain price. I'm thinking I should splurge and do it.

Congratulations Al. Like Nick, I'm looking forward to seeing the new camera. I also recommend the Canon 50 1.8. It's a sharp lens. Read Dante Stella's comments about it. You might also consider the CV 28 1.9. Unfortunately, this is the kind of board discussion that drives up lens prices. See you at the Tattoo Convention in a few weeks, hopefully. Post some images when you settle on a satisfactory lens.

Get the 1.4, you won't regret it! If you can get it for a good price go for it. The price is definitely on the upswing now following all the attention on this board. The lens is larger than the 1.8, but not a problem to work with.

Go for it! Or, if you don't want the 1.4, send them my way...

Yes, Jeff -- I decided it was worth the risk and now have a Canon 50/1.4 screwed into my Bessa R waiting for a few free minutes to shoot something and test it out!Get the 1.4, you won't regret it! (laughing here) I think I hold onto it, Al. At $150, unless it proves to be a dog, I think it was money well spent. Outwardly, it looks clean and smooth, and the scratches shown on the front element in this photo can't be seen with a naked eye, really. Taking it out today to shoot with. I hope.

So, I ordered an Industar 61 from the classifieds here. I'll still be looking for a Canon 50 1.4, and I may just get a Jupiter-8 as well. Since it appears you can sell things here for about what you pay for them, buying three or four lenses and keeping one doesn't cost that much overall.
Then there is also the "I have 3 lenses and 1 body, I need another body" strategy...
