Indeed.... i was refused both folding trekking poles, & a 3.2m folding avalanche probe........ yet the woman next to me was knitting with 18" needles which any good ninja could work with....

The wisdom of the TSA is not to be questioned by mere mortals! Seriously, I worked in an airport terminal for several years, with a security clearance that allowed me to go almost everywhere. My experience confirmed what many other employees told me: most of the security regs are for show. A TSA officer with whom I became friendly told me as much, too. Off the record, of course!
