Funny, I was just reading in a French magazine that they are reuniting for a world tour. How cool. I loved them during the 80's and still think their songs are cool.

Someone gave us tickets to see Sting at The Garden once.

I hope I can get to see them again. I saw them in a bar in Syracuse a loong time ago--the first time they came to the US, no one knew who they were(or how good) and they did a typical bar/pub tour. Great fun. The next year they came back and were playing stadiums. Also fun but not the same.

...and of course they opened the Grammy show on Sunday and announced their reunion tour Monday. What a coincidence!
I saw them a couple of times back in the day, too. Definitely did not fall asleep!

When I was at UNI, I saw a band from Sydney called "The Cockroaches". Quite good, but nothing special. Now they're one of the biggest bands in the world under a different name - ask your 4 year olds

Yeah, that was the first time I was legally in a bar, I'd just turned 18.DougFord said:That was back in '78, their first US tour. I saw them that same year at CBGB. They didn't have enough material to cover an encore so they just re-played a few songs.
I saw the CREAM reunion tour at MSG. It was a kinder and gentler cream. Not the loud maniacal cream that captured my heart many years ago.
Rock'n roll is a young man's game.![]()
I never did get down to NYC to see anybody a CBGB's and that place is apparently moving to Las Vegas
I did see most of the national bands that played there other places along the way, though.

The only reason THE POLICE are back is because some of the band members need a PAY CHEQUE!
I do like their older beginning music.

Wouldn't surprise me at all! And I'm happy to contribute if they play somewhere close to me.mw_uio said:The only reason THE POLICE are back is because some of the band members need a PAY CHEQUE!![]()

By thirty I realized music and stadiums don't mix.

I agree totally, and don't care for arenas either. Rock and Roll belongs in clubs and small venues.

According to one Sting-related site I was visiting yesterday, tickets at some places are slated to go for $225+/each. Far too much for my pockets. Of course, you're more than welcome to pay to become a member of the 'insiders club' and have access to pre-sale stuff. What a scam!
BTW, not all dates have been announced, but I do know they're playing Vancouver, St. Louis in July, and two nights at MSG.

One of my co-workers was a dedicated music fan a couple decades ago. He saw U2 in a bar in East Lansing, Michigan during their first tour.
I quite agree that it is a young man's game. As they mature, the fire dies down and many musicians make better, if less exciting, music. Cream is a good example. The Royal Albert Hall DVD has some exceptional moments -- the interplay during NSU comes to mind -- but lacks the fury of the old days. Then again, how many people could attain that level and maintain it for years?
Almost on topic . . . I used to shoot concerts back in the day. Can't ever recall using an RF though . . .

Who cares, after a reef or two you can conjure your own music...
Not that I would smoke marijuhana at the concert. I don't use illegal drugs. Yes, I have tried it... once... maybe thrice... I can't remember. But I never inhaled!

without a doubt. The Wall Street Journal did a piece on this last week. Reunions are HUGE and really drive ticket sales. Rage Against the Machine is reuiniting and has almost sold-out the festival they're appearing at (the name slips me now). Even Van Halen (w/DLR) is reuniting.

That is the bottom line. I've always loved Joe Strummer's take on the music business and musicians:
'n every gimmick hungry yob digging gold from rock 'n roll,
Grabs the mike to tell us he'll die before he's sold,
But I believe in this and it's been tested by research,
He, who ****s nuns, will later join the church.
"Death or Glory" The Clash
I'm sure that'll get bleeped.
