I'll admit that I discovered this rather late, but it's a very compelling story, with a few unexpected laughs thrown in for good measure. I somewhat doubt that this guy was kicking his b/w process old-school, but I can clearly see why it was the only way to go.

Thanks for the HU... Very impressive! Hard to believe how photographs could be that powerful not only for art but also for social or political projects.. I am amazed of the potential of poster size photography for "message-giving"; functioning like huge visual-loudspeakers.

question: what sort of specialized printer does this sort of print ?

Large format solvent or uv ( latex making inroads now) printers, Nur, Vutek etc, etc up to 5metres wide for the one piece vinyl banner material. Like most billboards are done these days.

The adhesive material printed in tiled strips up to 2000mm, usually 1350 is easier to work with. They can be printed on Roland, Seiko, Mimaki, HP, Epson etc, etc solvent (or uv, latex) machines or Fuji, Inca etc, etc flatbeds.

The dpi for the file usually ranges between to 15-72 dpi (or even lower) on these size prints, but the printer will usually be set to 180-360 for these size prints.

Thanks for showing this, I'd never heard of him, inspiring and brilliant.
Not sure anyone would get away with this in London, few walls are free from advertising already and fly posters are like the mafia. They get very upset if you post over their work.
Actually, I think that his message would have been as clear in colour, but not as gritty.
