True. I just got a pre-war Zeiss Jena 135mm f4 Sonnar, and it is unbelievably heavy. I find it too long for most of my shooting, so that is less of an issue for me for most purposes.

For that purpose Kodak Retina's are good. I have a Reflex IV, but a IIIc/C/ would be better. Leaf shutter SLR with interchangeable lenses.

All the shipboard US Navy photographers mates used Pentax 67s for aerial shots from helicopters since the late 80s. Hanging out a helo door a thousand feet from the water is one of those places where the 67 doesn't sound loud at all...

I hope they at least gave you a monkey strap. Or maybe when I had to hang out the back of a Chinook, the US Army crew was just more anxious to avoid the ton of paperwork they would have had to generate if I fell out.

I was using a Fujica ST 901 so it was easy compared to that cannonball you were carrying.

Some of my best photographs have been made under those same circumstances.

Ever try a Pentax SLR 1000mm lens. Fine photo takers but are best used when mounted to a jeep.

I find the most annoying sounding shutter of all my cameras is the one on my Nikon FM2N.

I am in total agreement with your comment that the shutter of the Nikon FM2N is annoying. In fact, its loud sound is so annoying to me that I stopped using it when I got my first Leica. I find that I prefer a quiet shutter to a loud one

I've been shooting mostly my fixed lens rangefinders lately, with the leaf shutters built into the lenses.

Yesterday, I took delivery a Nikon FG. Today, I went out and shot a roll with it. After having gotten used the fixed lens rangefinders, this thing felt loud and shakey! It's like: CHUCK-CHUCK! instead of *click*.

No WONDER folks like Pentax 67s so much!

Maybe someone will invent an app for that.

The problem with rangefinders is.....you can take a photograph with the lens cap on.

Rangefinder lenses rule #1 : lenses hoods always on (plus some good multicoated UV filters if you fear for your lenses front elements eventually).

Rangefinder lenses rule #2 : front lenses caps stored at home, in a drawer, and never put on the lenses.

And a little Konica Autoreflex C I inherited from my father has a shutter and mirror sound like two quick strokes of a large chef's knife on a sharpening steel!
