The Ricoh GR version 3, what do you want to see?

I'm someone else who has had no problem with dust. Weather sealing would be good though, if it can be done without increasing size.

I would be happy with a pop-up evf instead of flash, if that can be done.

The two most desired improvements for me:
As someone who shoots at 25600 quite a bit, I would like an improved sensor to reduce noise (the lens is great now, and the detail it retains is impressive).

Improved (i.e. usable) AF in lowlight.

(As it stands, I also use an M9 and EM-5, and the GR is my favorite, and most-used camera)

I like the suggestions about GR taking a lesson from Sigma DP. In fact, why don't Ricoh and Sigma get married--esp. the DP & GR divisions. More fixed lens fun for us, more $$ for them!

I haven't had any dust problems on this or previous GR models, but I can see weather sealing being a smart choice.

I thought I'd want more than 16mp from it, but every time I work on a raw file I'm hugely impressed by the files. 16mp seems to be a sweet spot on APS-C for image quality.

The front ring is for mounting the hood/21mm on, so I don't see how it can be that AND a control ring.

No point changing the FL, it's a GR, that means 28 or 21, and it can do both. There are other options for other focal lengths.

The GR is a specific tool, if that suits you, you're very lucky because it's a spectacularly capable tool, if not, other tools are available.

It's a rf kinda of thing.. From the day of film cameras where the optical viewfinder had frame lines. If u have action moving horizontally across the viewfinder, if u have pre-focus or zone focus for a particular background, then when the subject walks into the picture, u have some leaway due to the amount u see outside the frame line to decide when to take the shot i.e. The so call 'decisive moment'...

And yes a crop frame is much more accurate usually..but I suspect this type of implementation as in the q to be just about as accurate. The frame lines from the ovf on the Fuji x100 and xp1 are not as accurate compared to when one switch to evf. The accuracy issue of the frame lines are usually a factor of distance. The closer, the more inaccurate in both rf cameras and the Fuji ovf. As u get out toward longer distances, the difference between the offset inaccuracy vs distance becomes a smaller percent to point where it is negligible as u near infinity mark on your lens.

Switch to Pentax's hot shoe for TTL flash.

They're one company now and there's more flash for Pentax than for Ricoh anyway.

There's the X100 series, for 35mm, and I understand from a friend who uses one that there are good 28 and 50mm conversion lenses available for them.

I haven't used them, personally, but they are out there.

I never really got along with 28 so the GR is not currently on my radar. But from everything I've read form factor and user experience I would pick up a 40/45mm equivalent in a heartbeat!

instead, i want a coat pocketable camera that delivers better performance and handling.

the main reason why I let go of my GR was because of the dust issue, I wouldn't mine getting another one if they seal the lens and sensor better.

I think the problem is not so much the lens as poor sealing between the sensor and the rest of the circuitry in the camera body. I have dismantled mine twice to clean the sensor, after finding a large piece of fluff in the central area that was visible even wide open. Inside, the back of the lens assembly is well sealed from the sensor by what looks like an IR filter. Perhaps not putting the IR glass on the sensor itself helps corner smearing.

Unfortunately, around the sensor is a flexible rubber/plastic gasket that pushes against the lens assembly to make a dust seal against the rest of the stuff in the camera. On my camera, this appeared to be badly fitted, with part of the seal bent over leaving a small gap.

I would love to buy a GR that does not have this problem. Unfortunately, it is not clear that the GR II improves anything and I really am not happy placing an 800 euro bet that a new GR II would solve the problem.

Aside from the dust, I think the only thing that I would want from a GR III would be improved high ISO (useful when stopped down and using fixed focus at about 1m distance from the subject).

I've had a bit more of a ponder about this...

- Fix the dust, as per my previous post. I'm one of the unlucky ones who's been plagued by multiple visible dust spots.
- Improve the manual focus implementation - it sucks.
- Improve the feel of some controls, especially the front control wheel.
- Improve flare control (I haven't seen much mention of this, but I've had two GR's (APS mkI) and both have produced significant purple blobs with the sun at the right angle).
- Weathersealing - I hike a lot...
- Release two models simultaneously, one with a 28/f2.8 and one with a 75/f2.8 (equivalents), with identical bodies and user interface. For my use this would be a travel-the-world pair.

If they never add a second model for 35/40 fov perspective as I suggested in my earlier post...I hope they make a tele-converter. They already have the 21 converter.. Sort of like the Fuji x100 family has the wcl and tcl converters.

Not directly related to a successor, but I remember somebody complaining about dust on a previous version.

They'd tried tackling it by putting a vacuum cleaner nozzle to the open (empty) battery compartment, and had reported good results.

I've not had dust issues, but it may be worth a try
