Absolutely totally completely wrong way to go about it.

So I strip the cam, clean off SOME of the old residue etc, re-leather and NOW repaint. Bad mistake!
I'm getting enamel paint all over the leather, but I'm being pretty sloppy. Turns out number 7 black paint ISN'T the same as 50-year-old black Rollei paint, so instead I'm giving the Rolleiflex a nice matt-black finish, because glossy paint looks nasty!
Attached is the camera pre-clean, and then with new leather, and then a first and still wet layer of enamel. The front plate shows the original vs matt. Yes yes the original is nice and matt is kinda tacky but a completely matt black rolleiflex will look damn sexy once I'm done

Yea I've used cans before, but I wasn't really prepared the pull the rollei apart to paint it like I really should. In every stage of this restoration I've still been able to use it (even with the front plate removed) knowing me if I pulled it apart from spraying, it wouldn't end up back together.
I don't insist on using a brush, and its HORRIBLE, but its what's available to me at the moment in time. I doubt there'll be any metal on show to rust

too late now. I'll see how it looks in the cold light of morning. Nasty and it'll be stripped down again to bare bones and masked/ragged and sprayed. Otherwise I'll leave it as is and run a test roll to check it's all working and put it to use again.

I like those foam brushes for metal. Get a small one and cut it down even more to fit the area you paint. Also, that blue masking tape can be worked into grooves of your leather.

Nah the film advance is half-cranked to keep it out of the way while I painted around it.

It's your eyes playing tricks on you. rotate so the lever is at 6 o'clock, then fold it upwards. The knob is pointed inwards at 12 o'clock.
When the lever rests, you unfold from about 7 to 1 or 2 o'clock

IMHO, it looks like crap...but I'm just sayin'.
I've seen some pretty ugly Rflex's that still do the job, leave it like it is and go shoot it.

A few obvious "you missed a spot" moments, but I don't think it looks THAT bad for my *first* repainted/releathered camera.
The metal exposure meter is totally off. I stuck it on quick for the photo. I'm not sure I'll leave it on It's in German, and I can't read it!

Not too bad, It actually looks pretty cool in flat black. It's similar in fact to a Yashica 124G. Works for me!

£50 in rough condition, I'm happy with it. I think the canon 300D flash managed to pick up every nasty part and make it more obvious than it is when looked at in reality

Can't help but - being a mint-if-possible-guy - yours looks quite cool! It reminds of the anarchist style rat-motorcycles, matte black paint with the big brush!
Btw: I would leave the exposure table off, I think it doesn't improve the look. If you need a translation of the exposure descriptions pls tell!
