the saga continues...O.T.

my 28-48 arrived today.

it was packed in a padded envelope...

anyway, the cosmetics are very good. i'm surprised because the ebay photo showed it as not that great. the power of pics eh?

but the glass has alot of cleaning marks/scratches on the front element which is disappointing. i will have to see if it makes a difference and i need to track down some kind of hood for it, i think.
it had a new looking uv filter on it that was covered in fingerprints. it cleaned up well though.

i sent an email to the seller expressing my disappointment and i can only imagine the reply i will get.

The "proper" hood will be very hard to find.

You might be able to get away with 108-230, the metal slide-on hood meant for the 35/2.8, 50/1.4-1/8 and 85/2. It might be a bit too deep for the 28mm setting, but if so, having it ground down a bit until it no longer vignettes might work.
 
i have that hood coming in, the one you mention 35/50, trius.

like using the canon gear, finding the accessories was the greater challenge.

the filter size for the 28-48 is 49mm, why would the hood be 55 if it's screw in?

would a hood for a 28 (49 screw in) not work also?

the om site lists the hood as a 55mm screw in but i don't see how...

did i mention i got a partial refund from the seller?

i may be missing something but how would a 55mm screw in hood work? where would i screw it into?

as to the lens, i like the size and the range.

Huh. I've never seen the lens, so it looks like the eSIF is incorrect, or perhaps there was a setup-up ring required. I've written to the keeper of the eSIF and to see what he has to say.

I suppose you could use the 28mm hood, though I wonder how much benefit there would be at the 48mm end. Granted, the hood is most needed at the wide end anyway.
 
28-48? I might have to look at my box of unused OM hoods again...

Of course, if someone out here has a 35-70mm f/3.6 Olympus zoom they're dying to get the correct hood for, PM me. I know I have that one.

I wrote to Hans, the the keeper of the eSIF. Here is his response:

yes its filter size is 49mm.

Both the OM System Lens Handbook and Das Lexikon de OM-Systems claim the hood is 55mm screw-in. That would mean it would have two screwthreads? Or both books could be wrong. Can't tell, have neither the lens nor its hood. I'll ask it on the OM Mailing list.

i did look for another set of threads but didn't find anything.
i'm using an oly hard rubber hood for a 28 lens in the meantime.

Looks like someone has the OM diseases something bad. I traded in my OM-4 for an OM-1md because I had shutter issues that was worth more than what I paid for the 4. Now with an OM-1md I picked up a Motordrive 2 to go with it.
