The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I saw the movie in Singapore on the last day of a holiday while waiting to go to the airport after checking out of the hotel. So it was a time killer and I did not expect to enjoy it much if at all. (I hate most big name mainstream Hollywood movies preferring "small" stories that concentrate on story and character. Most mainstream movies of this sort are frankly crap). But I did enjoy this movie as it has both story and character - plus sumptuous scenery and a delightful soundtrack. it was "light" but not too light to be excessively frivolous or saccharine sweet. The story of changing times in the photo industry certainly resonated with me. It is not in my top 10 movies but neither is it in my bottom 10 and it's worth watching so long as you do not expect too much and accept it for what it is. The only thing I REALLY did not enjoy was the theatre which had the air conditioning on overdrive to the point that by the end of the movie I was shivering with cold. But I can hardly blame the movie for that. BTW if you haven't been to Singapore it's food courts sell really excellent food.

The remake was a fun movie, and I had a fit of joy when I saw the pro photographer was using a Nikon F3/T (i owned a plain F3 at that time)

Of course, if it was a Canon F-1N then I would have selected this film as the best of all times...

This was one of those movies that, after it was over, I couldn't wait to say to my (film professor) wife how much I enjoyed it, until she turned to me and said "well that was a waste of time."

I particularly loved the Space Oddity cover and sequence, that has stuck with me as awesome.

great film....but "F3/T cameo" it bugged the hell out of me "shooting snow leopards" with a 400/2.8 G lens on a f3..... how you make aperture work?

I met the guy who did the still photography for the film earlier this year. In addition to shooting the behind the scenes stuff, he also shot the photos that were used as props in the film (it was his thumb!). He's a very talented and nice guy, Wilson Webb. He's been shooting the stills for all of Ben Stiller's movies. His work is here: http://www.wilsonwebb.com/ and here: https://www.instagram.com/wilsonwebb/.

Thats quite an impressive instagram!

They made a movie about Walter Mitty?!!? That was required reading in my High School in the 50's. Actually, I think I saw a part of it on TV one night, but it didn't interest me that much, not in the then current treatment, nor in comparison to the story I had to read in the 50's.
