There are times I am captivated with the making of an image. Doesn't mater what I use as I sculpt the image with whatever camera is in my hands. I become one with the tools and they are an extension of my soul. All I think about is capturing the image in my mind that is starting to unfold in front of me.
In the past I've been a whore, selling myself at less than cost, just to be a part of a special photographic opportunity, gather the funds to support my passion, or just get the next roll of film developed.
My photography as a profession has woven itself in and out of my business life many times over the years. From most if not all of my pay coming from photography, to very little while generating revenue by other endeavours. I've wandered in and out of professional, amateur, and snapshooter status many times over the last 25 years. Today, its about 50/50. Tomorrow, who knows 🙂
While not considered rich by any means, I have the ability to buy the photography equipment I want or need without regard to the bottom line. If it works for me, I need it, or sometimes just want it, I usually just go buy it pretty much without regard to cost.
In the end, I guess that means.....
7 Artist +
6 Whore +
5 Amateur +
4 Snapshooter +
3 Professional +
2 Rich Amateur +
1 Equipment measurbator =
7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 28
definitely at strong 28! 🙂
But more seriously... I waiver between a 5 and a 3 depending on the level of professional work vs personal photography I am doing.I try to buy equipment that will give me great results, but I am not obsessed with that I shoot with. I like shooting with my DSLR or 4x5 as much as a QL17 or underwater disposable.I even own a Lensbabies 🙂
