The Summarit: Dreamy Photos or Haze?

Did you use a hood on your Summarit on these last photos of your daughter?
It looks like some glare is refecting off the brick wall and into the lens to make some of the pictures appear soft. Especially in the last 2 shots and pictures number 4 and 5. The summarit is noted for flare and mine does the same thing even after it came back cleaned from Focal Point. Just my humble opinion.

Jim: I really cannot recall, but I see what you mean. I am cautiously optimistic about the usefulness of this lens since some images came out contrasty enough and some did not. I will try out B&W film next, as Frank S. has suggested to me.

I think they look just what you would expect from the Summarit. There is some loss of contrast in bright areas, but I'm guessing this is due to the front element; are there some scratches on the coating or on the interior side of the front element? I wouldn't be surprised if they hardly showed up.

Cute pics, Raid.

Thanks, Gabriel. If there are scratches, then I did not see them and then of course, a CLA would not help anyways. I will inspect the lens again.

I expect the strange posterisation in the OOF area's and the first shot are from the scanning? Or did you photoshop them heavily in 8-bit mode. Much as I like the shots, which I do, it is very hard to say anything sensible about the lens they were taken with.

A few more samples with this Summarit, now wide open, at f/1.5:

Raid:

Yes I used a lenshood, the rectangular Leitz one that was made for the Summarit.

As near as I can recall, the exposure information was left to right:

1/500 @ f5.6 or f8, 1/250 @ f4, and 1/500 @ f16.

They were shot last December, so the air was cool. clear and haze-free, little or no heat convestion to disrupt the images.

Paul: I used F 1.5 in many shots, so I may have been asking for softness.
