Just visited the local amenity recycling yard and the person in front of me had a cardboard box with what looked like a leather camera strap hanging out of it. I asked if I could take a look and he passed me the box and said keep anything if they're any use…. inside was an old Rolleiflex Automat, a Reflekta tlr in its leather case and a Kodak Junior 620 also in its leather case. So I thanked him kindly and have brought them home for closer inspection. First glance shows that the Rollei has the latch missing from the back door lock, but does have the push on lens cap.

Anybody else have a lucky encounter at the recycling yard?

It´s not a good idea to tell this kind of story in a gearhead forum! Someone could get a stroke from jealousy!

Seriously, congratulations to your find! I hope you can get the stuff working.

Wow, I always have dreamed of something like that happening but nothing so far.

The closest I've come is my mother-in-law asking if I wanted her mother's old polaroid that she was planning on tossing. Of course I said yes, thinking I'd end up throwing it out myself, but it turned out to be a working 250 Land camera. The exact model I had been planning on buying when I saw a good price on one. I was pretty happy about that.

I usually go to the recycling yard to drop items that really cannot be used anymore like an old car exhaust, used engine oil or coolant aso.
The problem is I usually come back with other stuff 🙂
Generally bicycles, LP turntables, stereo amplifier/tuners, stainless steel or other steel bars/plates, books, and even working 1950s lamp radio receivers. Never a Nikon F though 🙁
It's amazing what poeple throw away. When my dishwasher generates a fault my first supplier is the recycling yard !

I picked up 5 very new condition and fully functioning point and shoots from an anima charity shop. They were asking £10 for the lot; I gave them £20. Over the past year, I've given 4 away and kept the Olympus Trip. I'd love to find a Rollei for free, though.....that would be very cool.

Hi,

I had, from the local tip, a stable of Moulton bikes once, about 18 of them in all sizes. I'm slowly working my way through them and getting them usable. About 3 or 4 left, I think...

Regards, David

Dear Paul,

Some shops handle that a lot better than others, don't they? There are those who have a job getting their heads around the idea that you're offering them more, not less.

Cheers,

R.

This is the only visible damage, going to book into Newton Ellis and get it looked at.
Sorry I don't seem to be able to post 3 pics and text in one go.
