The Two Zeiss 85mm ZM Lenses

this was nice to read. wonder are they making new ones or still selling old stock ? EDIT: because the long wait, prob. making new ones.

I'm sure they have all components in stock but just need to assemble it. It's supposed to take 9-12 months.

I contacted zeiss some time ago about the 85/2 and all they said was that it was not being produced at the current time. They didn't say it had been discontinued so I read that as maybe there would be occasional batches produced which seems to be the case. Good news indeed.

Indeed I asked my supplier today, and they explained to me that it is not a special order, Zeiss is making a full batch, but they are not sure about the quantity.

Here's where I ordered mine: www.foto-huppert.de

Latest update: according to my Zeiss supplier in Germany, Zeiss has dropped their plan to make a new batch of the Sonnar! Bummer!

wow that blows.

the 85/2 is a VERY good lens.

I hope Zeiss isn't shying away from the RF market. their lenses sit in about what I would consider to be the right place price/performance wise for me.

Well, the 85mm/4 Tele Tessar is incredibly nice, even if it isn’t as sexy as the f/2 Sonnar, optically quite amazing. It’s light enough that it won’t tear a hole in your pocket and inexpensive enough that it won’t tear a hole in your wallet either. I suppose the Sonnar was too close in price to the 90mm Apo Summicron to compete for the fast telephoto market. Sic transit gloria mundi.
