My Dream? LISTEN LEICA!!!
THE M9 WITH THE FOLLOWING FEATURERS
1. EXCELLENT HIGH ISO PERFORMANCE
2. A LARGER BATTERY PACK THAT WOULD MOUNT ON THE BOTTOM THAT WOULD LOOK LIKE A M WINDER, AND HAVE SLOTS BUILT INTO IT FOR MEMORY CARDS. THIS PACK WOULD ALLOW EXTENDED USE OF THE CAMERA IN THE FEILD WITHOUT EXTRA BATTERIES. BATTERY PACK WOULD TAKE AA BATTERIES LIKE THE PENTAX 645N.
3. CAMERA SHOULD HAVE A LIVE VIEW OPTION WITH THE ABILITY TO MOUNT AN ELECTRONIC REFLEX VIEWER ON THE HOT SHOE ON TOP, GIVING YOU THE ADVANTAGE OF THE LUMIX G1, BUT HAVING A LEICA SENSOR. THIS WOULD MAKE THE M8 A DSLR IF ONE WANTS. I COULD SEE IT WITH TELEPHOTOS AND THE NOCTILUX.
4. BETTER DYNAMIC RANGE.
5. ALL THE CHANGES IN THE M8.2.
6. SYNCH CHORD PLUG IN BACK LIKE THE M6.
7. KEEP THE PRICE AT $6000 OR LOWER, BUT NOT HIGHER.

Ooh! Two cardinal sins committed here - excessive use of capitalisation and a hectoring attempt to tell Leica how to design a new camera for you. Pretty impressive in one post.

Leica does read these forums, but I suspect that these threads get printed out for laughs.... Of course Leica R&D knows exactly what the majority of their customers - or even minorities- want, but that is just one starting point of a design - feasability, cost, total product, end price, practicalities of mechanical engineering, supply chain of parts, compliance with the system, design, philosophy, and above all, image quality are some of the keywords.

High-ISO performance is usually directly related to sensor size, if I'm not mistaken. Can anyone confirm this? Also, fitting 15MP into a half-frame sensor would just worsen the noise and high-ISO performance. There's nothing wrong with 6 or 8MP.
I do not agree with #3--the Leica M is not an SLR. That's what the R, and other cameras are for.

There is a relationship between pixel size and noise, but also between base sensitivity and noise, and other design considerations. It is not simply one on one.

What about my Idea of a battery pack under the camera
i thought this idea of a battery pack under the camera would be interesting. I have a Pentax 645n, and I like the idea that if i run out of power, I can get batteries at any drug store. You could have a pack that plugs into the M8 that alraedy exists from the bottom, with connectors for the SD card and battery compartment. I have traveled the world many times, and for the M8 to be used in various conditions, especially the third world, this feature would help alot. If Nikon and Canon can have cameras that can take thousands of shots per battery charge, why should the M8 be limited? Why should it be less than it can be with little if any modification?

because part of the hardware for running the M8 is incorporated in the battery pack- Flashlight batteries do not have this hardware...

You are not the first to have this idea (or the one about extra cards in the base). I suggested it to Leica well over a year ago. I think they had already looked at the idea, from the polite interest they displayed, and I know that they quite quickly came to the conclusion that it wouldn't be worth the extra weight and complexity. Especially, I suspect, the latter, because the accessory base would need to be hellish expensive, so they wouldn't sell many, so it would be even more hellish expensive...
Mind you, I've not yet discussed with them my idea of a SCNOO/Leicavit type generator: each pull gives enough power for one shot...
And it doesn't mean that an M9 couldn't be redesigned with this in mind.
There really is no room for a flash synch socket, though. I've watched them assembling these things in Solms and that body housing is very tightly crammed. After all, compare the size of an M8/8.2 with a bloated DSLR.

I think the Live View viewfinder is a great idea. It shouldn't add almost anything to cost for anyone who doesn't buy it and if you want it, you pay extra.
It would turn niche camera to potential universal camera, so people wouldn't need to buy DSLR first and then RF _maybe_ later (talking majority here).
It would create many new items Leica could sell to it's customers (finder itself, longer lenses, TCs, tilt/shift adapters for standard DSLR lenses (crop would help in this case) etc.) and create (imho) ideal travel camera giving you everything you might need in small and light package.
Of course, most people would use longer SLR lenses on it with third party adapters, which is probably good even for leica (easier upgrade path = more bodies sold = more wider lenses sold later on; market for remaining R glass etc...)
I personally still shoot film and I'm not going to change anytime soon, but this feature would tempt me VERY much

Yeh, I know a G1 would be ok, but it is NOT a pro camera and it's sensor is not a pro sensor. The crop factor wastes too much capacity of a Leica Lens, so the idea of the next digital M being a universal camera is superior to a G1 solution. As a matter of fact, this one issue is so important, I am going to start a new thread dedicated to this alone.

No, not really. I want RF camera, that can be in turned into LV camera if situation requires it (long lenses, polarizer, tilt/shift, macro). Imagine visoflex, but digital and looking/weighting like any other external viewfinder.
Not for someone, who specialises in this kind of photography, but idead for those, who want to take such photos occasionally and don't want to lug another body around.
