What I have learned from my kids so far; there are four photo stages available (at least up to 5 years where my son is):
1. 0-9 monhts: perfect still subjects. Use iso 200 to 400 in available light.
2. 9-24 months: subject surpasses ability of manual focus. use iso 400 to 800 in bright light.
3. 2-5 years: subject strains AF (even CANON 1D series), use iso 1600 in lots of light.
4. 5 years +: treat subect as sports and shoot at iso 1600, fast primes and max frames/sec.
