The Voigtlander Ultron 28mm f2.0...

Ultron 28f2 on a M4P at closest focussing. Probably around f4 or 5.6. Arista Premium 400 in Pyrocat HD, semi stand for 18 min.

Just saw this thread, thanks, Helen.

My Ultron is very nice! After trying a Cron 35, I was not sure I would like a 28 mm lens. Turns out it is perfect for my M3 with a separate VF. Haven't tried it in the M6 yet.

I got the Ultron 2.0 a couple of days ago and wanted to check if it had the focus shift issue. I only care for the performance with film.

These shots are shot at f 2.8, 4 and 5.6. This is 400 film. Should the problem be obvious in these conditions, or does the film mask it?

Anyway it's good enough for me since i only intend to use it on my Zeiss Ikon.

Focus on the rubber thing that holds the wire.

In this shot i focused on the i in "WEIGHT". My guess is that aperture is f4.

Nice "test" photos. :)

The lens is a great performer, also on digital (see my test here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146790). The shift is only noticeable when you measure resolution against a flat wall or shoot a shift test target - in practice it's not an issue, as your photos demonstrate nicely.

BTW, people test for shift but forget about the cosine error, which in practice can have at least the same impact (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148485).

Bottom line: the lens is great, enjoy it !

I love this lens! It's great to have a fast wide again on my M8. Didn't realize how much I was missing it until I had something wider than the 35mm. Makes a nice complement to my 50mm. Quite often I've found I'm leaving the 90 and 35 at home, just going out with the 50 and 28.

Nice to see sharp photos with this lens - my copy with serious (focus on 3m, sharp at 5m) back-focus issues is on its way to Japan for adjustment now...

I liked this lens on the Ricoh GXR, found it ok on the Leica M9, but couldn't bond with it on the M-P.

I have the Color Skopar 28/3.5 as well and I like it more, although in color it has issues on the M-P that only CornerFix can solve.

I decided to keep the Color Skopar, sell the Ultron, and bought a Leica Elmar-M 24/3.8 ASPH. The CS will be used on my film bodies and the MM246 when it gets here, the Elmar is wonderful on the M-P.

I've owned the 2/28 for a few years now and only have good things to say about it. It is very sharp at all stops and quite flare resistant. The tonality is superb and reminds me a lot of Leica glass of the Dr Mandler era.

Previously I owned the 1.9/28 and feel that the f2 Ultron is the better lens. It is more flare resistant and has better tonality. It is shorter in length, so it doesn't intrude on the frame lines. This was a real pet peeve of mine with the f1.9 model. Build quality is superb.

Focus shift has never been an issue for me and I have shot the 2/28 of both film M bodies and the M240.

Overall I think the Ultron 2/28 is one of the biggest bargains around. You really do need to step up to the Summicron 28 to find something comparable in the f2 category. And considering the cost of the Cron, that's pretty amazing.

Just arrived a day or two ago, and I've not really had a chance to suss it out aside from some basic exposures to see if anything was amiss. But so far, I really like how this performs on my XPro 1. No distortion, negligible vignette, handles great. Looking forward to shooting more with it - I just wish it was a 24mm. :/
