The Wash House Laundromat

I pass by this laundromat on South Calhoun Street in Fort Wayne every morning when I take my son to school. This morning, I stopped and photographed it. The lights are always on inside, even when it is closed, as it was the morning that I photographed it. The sign out by the street proclaims that The Wash House Laundry and Dry Cleaning is "The pride of the south side."

They look identical to the ones that used to adorn the waiting areas of Fort Wayne's airport. I suspect that is where these came from, as the airport built a new terminal with new fancy furniture about 15 yrs ago. The old stuff had to go somewhere, and this place probably bought some of the old seats!

I really like this one. The other is good, but this I like the light and the angle/s.

Opposite for me, I much prefer the first. It's got everything it needs to bring across the location. Plus the dollar sign is more in your face.

IMO everything the second one adds to that is a distraction, like the paper box, the next door sign, the chimney.

Thanks Helen. Yeah, I used the 5D mkII. This was a 2 second exposure at f11, ISO-100.

I can see that...good catch. I like Hopper's "Nighthawks" painting and I guess this reminded me of it. Explains why I was drawn to it. I wonder if a person folding laundry or someone sitting on one of those colorful chairs would add a human element to it that would help pull the viewer into the work.

I like the first one as well. Lovely colours and the strong horizontals accentuate the "emptiness" of the picture. The empty chairs of alternating colour foil well with the tiles on the right. Really great balance to it.

Both are good photos for me, but I too prefer the first. BTW, $3.50 per garment. Wow, we can pay as little as $1.50 in Northern VA.
