I have got this lens in Contax mount (chrome) as an advance b-day present, and had the chance to try it on both B&W and colour.

I'll let the results speak for themselves. Mom and Dad were the victims. Wide open:

The results stopped down are not surprising, but it's wide open that I'm floored. Not only is the depth of field as expected, but the bokeh and sharp to soft transitions are absolutely to die for, and the vignetting just perfect. I think this might even be better than the 105mm Nikkor.

Great Pictures

Great Pictures

The picture of Dad is really sharp and Mom's is a bit soft, just the way male and female portraits should be. Great job!! The trees are reminding me of an Ansel Adams or Weston type of picture done with large format. Again great job. You have a lens to be proud of as well as a great photographic eye.

I just did a trade for a 5cm f/1.4 Nikkor in Amadeo adapter. This will allow me to use longer than 5cm lenses and I can't wait to pick up the 8.5cm lens for portrait use like the ones you've shown.
Gorgeous photos up close and wide open! As a general purpose long focal length lens it performs awesome as well.
The 10.5cm Nikkor is one of my very favorite lenses and pairing it with its older, shorter brother will be cool.

Thanks guys. I posted these too because there's not a lot of examples of the lens at close range wide open around the 'Net, so I hope it's useful to those contemplating the purchase.

🙂 Indeed, it is useful in helping me want one even more! (nice pix)

Thanks for the post. I have this lens as well to suit Contax but only have Nikon Rangefinders so was just going to sell it off. Its nice to see what the lens is capable of.
