Very good point on using tupperware to seal them from steam/moisture. My good friend a Insurance Adjuster recommended that I install my 5ft tall x 3ft deep Chubb safe in the basement as if installed on the main floor, they have seen much damage inside. My safe is sealed and has a 8hr. rating. I never have my equipment out for display for anyone to see regardless how close they are too me.A fireproof safe won't protect most valuables like cameras. The fire rating of the safe is based on the burning point of paper, which is relatively hot. The humidity in the safe becomes superheated steam which does a really number on finishes. The safe company told me to put my cameras in tuppreware containers.as the best solution.
I do keep my cameras and valuable papers in a large gun safe.
Awful news, and I hope the stuff turns up. Sending best wishes, and I have my fingers crossed for you.
Cheers
