We are either lucky or doing something right, or both. We've traveled many times to the Hawaiian Islands (mostly Maui), Spain, Canary Islands, Puerto Rico, St Thomas, Palms Springs area, and other tourist destinations. We rent a car and enjoy exploring, and have never had anything stolen from the car.
But then, we'll stop well before reaching a viewpoint, restaurant or mall to put things away before arriving. Nothing is ever in sight within the car. The camera is already on me, not taken from a bag in the trunk at a destination.
I feel compassion for the victims of theft, such a violation of one's person and space. And possibly very inconvenient...
