Cyling yesterday I managed to tangle with a car at a round about, cut a long story short the result was: one Rollei 35 with a new ding on the corner, one car with £1104 worth of damage, (driver just popped round with the estimate for repair), plus one very battered and bruised rider, (me). I must admit as l sit and type this l ache from head to foot and can hardly move and now my Rollei has a fresh ding too:(

As a cycling and film camera enthusiast I "feel" for you.

Ultimately, everything is fixable and replaceable, except your physical and mental well being.

Get well soon.

many thanks, still have not worked out who bounced best me or the Rollei:D

That's why you must have several Rollei 35 cameras. My cycling one is a Tessar Singapore got for $5 at a flea market, perfectly working, and with some dents already. The mint black 35 Germany made in 1966 doesn't cycle. ;)

You don't mention your bike - usually under those circumstances it won't come out fresh. So ?

Heal quickly and take much care of how the bruises evolve within the next days and weeks. Happened to me a decade ago. They didn't cure themselves easily.

luckily i was cycling with a heavy weight mountain bike and not my fixie, the bike is ok, l took the brunt of the collision:eek:

woke up this morning and my whole body has seized up, hopefully hot baths and painkillers will get me on the road to normality, ( well as normal as I get)

Get well, Mike! You mentioned that the driver came by with a car repair estimate; hopefully you aren't on the hook to pay that.

Sorry to hear of this. Rather too one-sided of the driver to drop around quite so soon with the quote. Not much to cheer you up. Hang on: I'll bet your photography improves. Some broken ribs ( also my fault) were the single greatest stimulus to improving my photography.

Yes Frank indeed the bill was for the attention of myself, it was indeed my fault, a lapse in concentration coupled with sunlight in my eyes, the bill is for £1.104 GBP, at present I am checking to see if my insurance covers it, if not well I will have to take a big hit

The driver has been on the phone three times, wanted cash for the damage and then popped around with the estimate for her car, not once did she ask, 'are you ok'? all this less than 36 hours after the crash, likewise, my wife thought the driver had popped around too soon with the bill. The policeman at the scene said he had never seen so much damage to a car by a cyclist where the cyclist walked away from the accident with only severe bruising and a few broken ribs

Well, you can take solace that the car has more dings than you or the camera. It depends though on how many of those were from your wreck. I would think that because of the insistence on cash payment so soon after, and no concern whatsoever of your condition points to someone who has done this sort of thing before for profit.

Get well quick, Mike, and keep riding and shooting.
