While I am mainly a Nikon guy flirting with OM, this is a Canon camera that I found interesting while reading about it, and was lucky to find in great shape for a great price on eBay. Just the slightest hint of brassing on the shoulder edges, with 50f1.4 SSC. $75

I'm pretty much done now.

Does anyone know if a camera case for an FTb or F1 will fit the EF? Bottom cases help protect the camera and give me more to hold onto.

A real plus on this camera.....

A real plus on this camera.....

The camera has built into the circuitry the ability to moderate whatever battery is used (likes the 1.35 volt PX625) to the correct voltage. Ie. if you use a 1.5 volt battery, the delivered voltage to the meter will be 1.35 volts.

Have had three of these.... beautiful camera and mine all worked well for me.

Others have been pretenders to the "Black Beauty" title, but the EF is the first and only true Black Beauty. Just as others have tried to usurp the title "Texas Leica", the only real Texas Leica is the Fujica G690 and G690bl.

Hi Kuzano, yes I've read about the battery versatility!

Joe, it is in fact a Nikon strap. Just temporary.

Any word on what case fits?

Beautiful camera and you got it at a great price. My FD 50 1.4 took wonderful photos wide open.

We won't go into what they call me.

Oftheherd, yes it takes a very special camera model in great shape for a good price to get me to bite anymore.

I have owned 2 of the EF at different times. The first, not long after they came on the market. I bought it new, camera body only. I already had a F-1 but liked the EF better. The controls just felt like they were in the right place for my hands (I have larger hands). I traded it, along with the rest of my Canon gear, when I made my move to Nikon.

Then a few years ago I saw a nice example on e-bay & bought it & a 50/1.4 lens on an impulse. Turned out it had some electronic quirks so I sold it to someone who wanted to tinker with it.

I would still be tempted by a minty example. I just really enjoyed using the EF. It is a camera that was years ahead of its time and that is why it wasn't a market hit. It was also released too close to the F-1's release date and cost very, very close to what the F-1 cost, so most people bought the F-1 instead.

Another thing that impressed me about the EF was it's silicon-blue photo cell metering system. It was simply wonderful for existing light photography. I can not remember exactly how low it could meter but I do remember shooting multi-second exposures & nailing them. This was not an easy thing to do back in the early 70's.
Oh no! am I really that old? :D

I'm not into Canons but that is a good looking one...
I have a problem with the white strap...please don't go out in public with it still on that beauty...
A nice black or dark burgundy leather strap is your only option...

Oh...you're not done...!!!

It is a nice cameras, I really like the solid quality of the EF. An F1 (old type) case will fit. You got a good deal.

For lenses, I like the 35/105 macro zoom. These are excellent lenses now, and the price for one is hard to beat. The 55/1.2 is an interesting lens, but large and heavy, and about half of the examples I've come across have fungus to one extent or another.

My favorite FD lenses are the 20/2.8, the 35/2 concave (I have a couple pics taken with one in another thread), and the 50/3.5 macro.

There isn't much sense in getting mega-expensive lenses for a $75 camera, but luckily most of the FD lenses can be found cheaply.

Thanks for that info, Frontman.

To appease the fashion-istas, I've taken off the light grey strap.

I am seriously dumbfounded why people were so offended by that camera strap. Then again, my wife says I dress like I am a homeless person so my fashion sense is admittedly lacking.

I used to have the 35-105/3.5 zoom. Very sharp for a 30-year-old 3x zoom. But if you think any of the f/1.2 primes are big and heavy, that zoom is an anvil!

Nice camera, Frank. At that price the body was free - I'm buying a 50/1.4 SSC BL for $75 and consider that an acceptable price. Enjoy!

It reminds me of my FTbN - the strap shoulders show a bit of brass behind the black but otherwise looks almost too new. Had to pay to have that one adjusted for modern batteries but that was well worth the cost. I need to get another 35/2 & 100/2.8 for it but that'll come someday.

Beautiful EF

I had an F1 (Org) and and EF in the past....
A great camera and buy at $75.00. It was built to the same standard as the F1.
And, if in the winter, you can't find your nut-cracker.... Well, a well placed hit with a bottom corner will help you put :D.. Just kidding, a metaphor of sorts.
