think tank...citywalker 30...a great bag!

let’s start off with the specs of the bag direct from think tank...
OD: 16.3” W x 11.4” H x 8.3” D* (41.5x 29* x 21 cm)

this is a big bag...
how big? well, my think tank retro 5 fits inside of the citywalker 30 and has room left over for gear!

do i need a bag that big? of course i do! we all do!
there are times when one needs/wants to carry everything they own to a shoot. or when traveling...take it all with you and after arrival parse it out into a smaller bag for day trips.

what’s it made of...
External: All fabric exterior treated with a DWR coating while fabric underside is coated with PU for superior water resistance, YKK® RC Fuse (abrasion resistant) zippers, 420D velocity nylon, 420D high-density nylon, 600D brushed polyester, 250D shadow rip-stop polyester, Derrington™ mesh pockets, antique nickel plated metal hardware, Dual Cross™ Buckle, 3D air mesh, mono mesh, 3-ply bonded nylon thread.
Internal: PE board reinforced removable closed cell foam dividers, 210D silver-toned nylon, PU backed velex liner, 2x PU coated nylon 210T seam-sealed taffeta rain cover, 3-ply bonded nylon thread.

when the citywalker 30 arrived i was knee deep in starting a new film camera collection...two very nice minolta xd11 bodies with a raft of lenses...28/35/50/135/200...they fit nicely into the cw30 and i might be able to fit the 85 i hope to get someday in there as well.

my fuji x kit fits with ease and is oh so much lighter to boot!! that’s 2 bodies and 4 lenses...if i want, the flash also fits in there perfectly.
would i recommend this bag to others? in a new york minute! the materials feel nice, the bag hugs me nicely and who doesn’t like a nice hug every now and then?

there is room for a laptop inside, the insert that houses the entire kit is removable so if needed you have a day bag to carry books or groceries...a pocket up front the entire width of the bag for smaller items,,,inside side pockets for phones, flashes, water bottles...zippered inside pocket...and an open pocket out back for mags, tickets and travel docs...all in all an excellent travel bag.

it is!
if you look at the insert, it could be halved lengthwise and still be a great bag...of course it would hold less...
it doesn't 'feel' very big in use...i think the outside materials help to keep it in motion when being carried.
 
I use the Citywalker 20 you (Joe) sold me and, like you say, it doesn't feel like a big heavy bag. Problem is, I don't have that much gear! At least not something I carry in a shoulder bag. I'm almost surprised that Thinktank came out with an even bigger Citywalker. The thing that is awesome about the bag is that strap. It's wide, padded well, grips just right, spreads the load so it doesn't feel as heavy. I'm still trying to figure out of I need a bag that big anymore.
But the Citywalker series is fantastic. Totally on-par with my old (stolen) Lowepro Stealth Reporter 500AW

I was shopping for a new bag last week and was certainly impressed by the Think Tank offerings. The Citywalker 30 is very nice. I opted to buy a Domke F-832 satchel and a F-5XB. The F-5XB was branded Domke-Tamron and was only $20.00. The F-832 is a very large bag for me. The salesperson allowed me to load my gear into the bag and carry it around the store for a bit. I was also given a two week period to return it as long as it was still in as new condition. The F-5XB was a no brainer for $20 and will probably be used for my GX7. Both of the Domkes were less money than the Think Tank bag. Bags are such a personal thing and I feel that one needs to really shop around before purchasing one. I have had a few bags in the past the have been repurposed or given away because I came to hate them after a few months of use. Joe, I really appreciate input on bags!

I don't have the 30 but do have the Citywalker 10. I think the materials and design of the bag are great. Yes I know it's a couple of sizes down from the 30 but for me this is my big bag. I gave up using bulky SLRs years ago when I injured my back and was unable to lug heavy gear around. It will hold all my gear and some extras but its only used when absolutely needed. The insert I feel makes the bag bulkier than it needs to be, but I think it's more suited to the size of DSLRs. So I often use it with a Billingham Hadley insert. It suits my Fujis better and also gives more room between the insert and the inside of the bag for extras. Makes the bag a tad slimmer too.
My small bag is the Ona Bowery too. Nice bag but only one divider and the outside pockets holds very little and aren't secure. Good size for a small kit though and comfortable to wear.
I really wanted Think Tank to produce a smaller bag in the Citywalker range, something like the Retro 5 but from the Citywalker materials.

yes! a citywalker 5 would be perfect for many rf/mirrorless users!
ona sells extra inserts btw...
