thinking about buying an adapter...

what do you think the best, easiest to find and cheapest camera brand is?
i'm thinking something longer rather than wider...

I gather u are asking more in terms of lenses not adapters themselves. In that case, I like the Konica and the Nikon ai/ais lenses. Since Fuji does not have in body stabilization, going too long will need a tripod.

U could also wait for the 55-200 Fuji lens since it has IS...if I remember correctly.

Long lenses are fairly easy to design, so almost any will do. Recently tested a 200mm Rokkor, quite nice, and quite cheap.

yeah, lens mounts in particular...i'm thinking mainly to just play around with some old mf lenses...i like old minolta lenses, very sharp and well made...i have been looking around locally at used lenses but what's available usually depends on the day...eventually i need to decide so i can buy a cheap adapter...i have an m mount adapter but the lenses that fit it don't normally fit in the budget category.

Used cv and canon rf ltm lenses tend to be less expensive when u are looking at the 90 and 135mm lenses. But if u are talking under 100 dollars, then the old mf focus slr lenses from Konica, Minolta, Nikon, etc.

I would say M42 mount. There are lots of choices and they are not expensive.

Hard to beat the Minolta MC and MD lenses. Is an adapter to XF-mount available? I was looking at Cameraquest and did not see one listed... maybe on Fleabay.

I'm in the same boat BA, after much consideration I've decided the Nikon F mount is my best step forward for this. Can be had for aprox £17 on eBay, fix a nice Nikkor 70-30mm ED (sourced one for £90) on that and you have quite a nice setup.

I don't shoot much long stuff, just a few classic car racing events a few times a year, and I really would like to wait for the Fuji 55-200 but I reckon the above is a pretty good compromise & has longer reach.

i don't really know why i'm thinking about putting a manual focus on the fuji...i'd likely use it a few times and shelve it...that being said, there seem to be lots of canon fd lenses about and i always liked them on my canon bodies in the past.

The 50mm f1.4 or faster, 100ish macro and the 135 are the ones I like to use in terms of long lenses on the xp1. I find the xp1 weight and size does well in terms of balancing the heavier old mf lenses.

I like the Konica AR line of lenses. Sharp, nice color rendition, and a bit lighter than others. Fotodiox adapter is fine. However I've only used the Hexanon AR 28/3.5 and 40/1.8. Both are GREAT! No experience with longer AR lenses. I have a Nikon Series E 100/2.8 that I like a lot on the XPro1. The lens is much lighter than other Nikkors and thus balances nicely on the Fuji.

Joe, its taken me some time to get used to it, but I now only use one auto-focus lens on the XPro1. Manual focusing with the magnification feature is quite fast for me now... plus zone focusing for quick street photos, of course.

i've seen that hex 40 at work...it is a great lens...not sure i want to cosy up to manual focus again...i switched to fuji from my lovely rd1 to take advantage of af...my eyes and fingers are both slowing down...

Joe, have you thought at all about the new Metabones Speed Booster adapters? If not, you might want to have a look there before deciding on which lens brand/mount to invest in. So far they've only developed Fuji X adapters for Contax/Yashica, Contarex, Leica R, and Alpa lenses. But they state other mounts will be coming.

Even though I start shooting in high school te Minolta sr1, my favorite slr were the Konica and Nikon ones. Today u can get Konica lens for dirt cheap. Check the KEH listings... Under 40 for a 40f1.8 pancake for example.
