things take time so i'm thinking ahead...

my cl needs a small half case for the winter shooting season.

i just sold the small case that came with the camera but that one is more for storage or carrying the cam in a briefcase, i think.
it does not stay on the body while shooting.
i'm wondering if anyone has found something that fits a cl?
i tried one today at the camera shop that was small but the body was a hair too wide for it.
any help greatly appreciated.

btw, i bought a domke gripper strap for the cl today.
turns out the wrist strap on the left hand was not for me.
the gripper is very long so the cam hangs down low or has lots of room for stringing across my great girth and over the neck.

Wrap it in duct tape and stick it to your forehead.

What benefit is a half case? I always wondered about the benefits of the Luigi cases and all that. Is it insulation or protection from dings and dents and scratches?

Seems to me that it would actually capture moisture and hold it close to the camera.

Personally, I would choose the Lowepro Allweather bags - they are cheap, tough, small, etc. The Domkes are good, but not so good for winter shooting. The Lowepro survived some very heavy wetness in Europe this winter.

I am going to guess that holding the case in cold weather is easier on the fingers than holding a cold metal camera body in way sub zero temps. At least that is my experience.

I never get to have any fun. Geez. It's like I just farted in church.

Then you just sit in your own pew 😀

Besides, in Edmonton, once winter hits, your fingers will be so numb you won't need a soft case.

Thought I caught a whiff of something.

yeah! that would pretty much be it.
in winter, for shooting, i wear very thin gloves so i can still operate the camera. with a bare camera my fingers/hand gets very cold very fast. the half case slows that a bit.

i have great cases to hold my cameras and store them but i'm talking about shooting in minus 30 temps.

joe

what's that smell 😉

Luigi makes a half case for the Cl, joe. 150 euros, mind you, but that is with a strap that lets it hang normally too...

Maybe when I get the 'crons paid for... 😉

i know but i just can't swing that.
especially for a part time case.

i likely will use the m3 for lots of winter street shooting. no battery/meter to worry about and with gloves a bigger camera is better.

but i want to try the cl in the cold also.

and i just bought a domke gripper strap for the cl today.
gonna give that a go for awhile.

Oh, I do understand that, although for me it would be full time as it is with my Canon 7 case. One thing you might consider is seeing if there are any local leather workers or cobblers in Edmonton that might be willing to look at various pics online, measure your CL and make something for a wee bit less than Luigi? Obviously it won't be the equal, but it would certainly be usable.

Hi Joe... what's with the winter post.. we're in spring now. Can't get enough cold weather so you want to push it ahead to December? I'm savouring spring, I'll write you on this one in October...

you wool glove user... heh!

Another option for a full case with a detachable top is http://www.kameraleder.com/leicacl.htm Expensive, but really nice! 🙂 I bought one for my CL. I hated the flimsy original case that came with the camera and offered minimal protection. I normally use the bottom half of the case for normal use and put the top on for protection when the camera is not in use.

to be clear...the title of this post is thinking ahead, not looking forward to...winter.
it will be a while, i'm assuming, before i can find/figure out what might work best for winter shooting.

so do it now while the there is no rush.

So you're not moving to Chile or Southern New Zealand! Remember winter is coming very soon to our Antipodean counterparts.

Get the one from the shop that is a wee bit too small.

Soak it well in water and press the camera into it.
Even Luigi will not be capable of making such a nice tight fitting case 😀
