My canonet gave glorious results both in focus and out, until I killed it.. I will get it fixed one day.
This event strangely seems to have resulted in me buying a canon 50/1.4. Now I just need a body to put it on, theres a bessa R2 I might go for..
Its proven a real gateway camera, for me anyway haha.
I will post some f1.7, f2 + f2.8 when I get chance..

Minolta 7sII lens basis for Leica CL????
Minolta 7sII lens basis for Leica CL????
This comes from CameraQuest and have seen similar references to the Minolta 7SII lens becoming the lens used on the Minolta/Leica CL. That would make the Minolta 7SII "truly" a poor mans Leica.

50 kids??
Boy, you need an ultrawide lens.
Jokes aside, i have found that the 45mm rokkor on the minolta hi-matic 9 has the best bokeh compared to yashica gsn, cc and canonet. So why not try to find a hi-matic (9,11, or even better, 7 or 7II - although i think 7II has a different lens already).
The yashica gsn's also have nice smooth backgrounds...See my gallery, folder "Model No Model" - the colour shots were all done with the gsn.

@rxmd : thanks for that v. interesting stepless aperture info. She isn't a geek, but she gets the bokeh thing. However although she appreciates a good photo she is easily satisfied by simple snaps also, so I may take your advice.
@maxxapple : It's a nice thought, but the Oly RD is beyond my budget.
@Ferdinand: that is great advice [minoltas for bokeh]. I think I'll take a look around. I'm slightly surprised, infact, that more bokeh advice of that sort hasn't through on this thread. Minoltas do seem to be a minority sport and there isn't even a minolta forum. Do you happen to know if Minolta SLR lenses also benefit from superior bokeh?
@tritiated : thanks for the offer. The ease and looks of the Canonet is such a plus that I would love to be convinced of it.
@Kuzano : looks like the 7sII is out of my price range. Hopefully the others have similar lenses.

I haven't scanned up my first two rolls out of my QL17 yet so I can't speak directly about its bokeh, but it sounds like you're projecting your own concerns onto your girlfriend.
Bokeh is awfully subjective, so it doesn't seem proper to worry about it in somebody else's camera, especially if it looks like the cam would otherwise be a great fit. If you're thinking of marrying this woman and asking her to bear fifty offspring in flagrent violation of concerns over world population, you really ought to consider how she feels about things.

That is probably true. However I also have in mind that if I am to spend all my hard earned money on film then I would rather get the bokeh as good as I can. In addition I not only appreciate the need for better bokeh (I don't require perfection) but have the time and leisure to enjoy persueing it. And so far the Canonet bokeh has that distracting vibrational effect of double-lining and other problems. It isn't so bad, I think, at much smaller apertures as is often the case, but I want my oof too.

It is mostly objective, as far as I know, the only subjective bit being that some people like bad bokeh. The artifacts of bokeh have been thoroughly rationalised such that there are even lenses from Nikon and Minolta/Sony that produce perfect bokeh (at great expense). The Nikon DC lenses and the 135/2.8 STF Sony (The emperor of Bokeh).

As an unreconstructed reactionary I am not feeling any need to do that. Therefore I blow a raspberry in your general direction.

Fat chance! I've a got a SLR Pentax ME super, with a rippling f1.7 50mm + 81a filter (just to make my enemies look good).
So therefore I put candles on my head and set fire to them:

"Flim? You want flim?"
Well, I love the look of this lens and never heard a bad thing about it. Here's a bokeh-like shot from my Canonet set in Flickr.
