I've just done a similar thing, but took a cheap option and got a D40 for my Nikkor lenses!, no automation of course, but surprisingly good results!

The D40 is a consistent and impressive camera for what I like to shoot...If you don't plan to do much cropping, the D40 would be a nice, light carry-around...

A couple things to keep in mind, D2H is only a 4.1 megapixel camera, which is fine if you don't crop much or make big prints. I see a lot of suggestions for the d40. The two lenses you mentioned that you have won't AF (due to its lack of focus screw) or meter on the d40. With that outta the way, the d2h does seem to have nice image quality.

I decided to do something similar about 5 months ago. Got a cheap Fuji dSLR from the UK and a decent Nikkor mid-zoom and I'm using it for family snaps, flogging my junk on eBay, pictures of the back yard for relatives back home, etc., etc. So far it works great - B&W film in the RFs for the serious stuff & the digi for the quick'n'dirty. Go for it! 😀
