Hello!
I am thinking of exchanging 35 biogon to 35 summicron, what you think? 🙂 what will I gain what will I loose? how big is difference in size? (the main reason I am thinking of switching is physical size, including hood) how much will be difference in price? pop flash will do something like this?
Thank you in advance!

ive used the 4th cron a bit, its small, too small for me actually, I have big sausage fingers so it didnt work well for me, not that I could get used to it...either way, its small, very small compared to the biogon and if you are worried about how long your lens is, its you best choice

Cron Length : 34.5mm
Biogon Length : 56mm
This length for the 35 Biogon must be the whole body of the lens including the part that extends within the body lens mount. Measuring from the mounting flange to the front rim, mine is 43mm long.
I suppose different versions of the 35 Summicron have different lengths; my old one is a tidy 28mm from flange to rim, and I expect the ASPH version is longer.

Thank`s Avotius and ghost
Few mm`s? it is almost a half size, also hood of biogon is huge..

i don't think it's quite that much but like i said, do what you want!

i prefer a bigger lens these days but then i have a stiffness in my hands that i never had before and shoot with gloves on for half the year.

Summilux? it is very expensive, also it is quet big too 🙂

Not the pre ASPH it's very small and one sweet lens......at least mine is, doesn't flare unless i really point it into the sunlight.

you sound upset with me...'I am thinking of exchanging 35 biogon to 35 summicron, what you think?'

i'm just saying what i think and i'm being sincere.
no offense is meant.

Hi Joe,

Please allow me to say, this bit here

changing a lens for a few mm seems frivolus...but if it makes you happy...

was rather strongly phrased (my italics). We have all bought and sold lenses with much less of a reason than Vlademir stated here.

Best,

Vlademir - like Simon says, I would also go for the preasph. Summilux. I 've run my own homemade tests between the preasph. Cron and preasph. Lux. I promise you, from f2.8 I couldn't tell them apart. Contrast at f1.4 is lower for the preasph. Lux but at least you have that stop for reserve. In real life shooting you will probably not care for the contrast anyway.

Best,

Vlademir, there's none where I am usually looking for (Ffordes, Apertureuk, Jonathan Harris, Shphoto.de). I suggest you contact also Jaap because he knows of a couple of Dutch stores that stock these things. Otherwise, you 'll have to check the aforementioned stores in the UK and elsewhere until one comes up. I think they are more rare than Crons. Patience my friend.

Patience? What does that word mean? 😀 honestly I don`t know how freaquantly I use 1.4 apeture, latest stage of my photography I try to prioritize my picture`s and I try to make nerrative more importante than aesthtetic qualitys (depth of field for instance), so I am thinking in the streets I would never use f/1.4, at night and in doors I use 400 iso film which I set exposure to -2 all the time and for that f/2 is very enough, so question is does it worth wait finding pre-asph lux or just call popflash and do the deal smooth and simple? 😀
Thanks for your help Alkis!
