I have never shot so much or had so much fun with a camera as I have with the X Pro 1, now I love the 18 mm but would like to get a little more cropped, I used to shoot a lot with a Rollei 35 and enjoyed the 40mm focal length. I believe the Fuji 27mm focal length is close to the equivalent 40mm (35mm format). has anyone used a Fuji 27mm on their X Pro 1. I realise it has no aperture ring, not sure if Id be happy having to jump into the menu everytime I wanted to change an aperture

You don't have to dive into any menus... you use the dial on the top, right part on the back of the camera.

excellent news, have you used the 27mm on your x pro 1

Yes, I like it a lot. It makes for a nice compact camera and the image quality is better than the 18mm. I guess it's easier to make a 40mm 2.8 than a 18mm f/2 though. :)

They are quite pricey in the Uk but there are a couple new on ebay for £228

I like the lens. It does take a little getting use to the aperture control but the focal length is good and the size is great.

I paid $449 when it came out and was satisfied at that price. Up until a few days ago, it was $199 in the US.

The 27 pancake is just about permanently attached to my xe1. For those who come from Leica/Minolta CL/CLE or similar film cameras w/ 38-40ish perspective, this is the perfect lens.

thanks for the replies chaps, GAS attack coming on, now how to break it to the wife!!!!!!!!I know, I have some money in my paypal account generated from selling some other stuff on ebay, so effectively its a swap for stuff I did not use for a lens I will, thats what i will tell the wife

As JS said, changing the aperture is fast convenient with the selection wheel on the back of the camera. You only have to use the Menu parameter "Aperture Setting" to choose between one of three aperture operation modes.

o Auto + Manual - in this mode turning the wheel changes the aperture until you reach the maximum setting, f 16. Further rotation turns the red M indicator on the lower right corner of the finder to S (you are now in shutter priority automation mode) and the f stop display changes to 2.8 (in red). When you rotate the wheel to the left the aperture returns to full manual mode.

o Manual - In this mode the aperture control is always set manual manually. Turning the wheel to the left or right, reduces or increase the aperture, respectively. If you decide to switch to shutter priority mode, you have to use the Menu system.

o Auto - in this mode the wheel does nothing and the camera is always in shutter priority mode. If yo want to switch to manual mode you have to use the Menu system.

I use Auto + Manual because with this setting you never have to use the Menu again to control the aperture.

The 28/2.8 is a wonderful lens. The AF is quick with the X-Pro 1. The lens is so small it's easy to quickly use it with a very small bag.

I bought a cheap screw-in 39 mm vented hood on ebay to protect the lens element. Of course the venting is useless, but I like the design. The hood I bought works perfectly with the Fujifilm OEM lens cap. But with some third-party hoods, I've had to buy third-party lens caps. Fujifilm does not make a hood for this lens. With no hood or a thinner hood, the X-Pro 1 would be even easier to carry.

I just ordered a 27mm but it's backordered. I'll dedicate it to a second Xpro1 body, put on a wriststrap, and take it everywhere. I like primes and don't like switching lenses while working, so 2 bodies/2 lenses takes care of most situations. I have an x100s for everywhere but its almost too small and 35mm is too wide.

thanks chaps my wife thinks you are all a bad influence, thanks everyone once again I bow before your knowledge, the foal length appeals to me as for years I shot with a Pentax 40mm pankcake and a Rollei 35S

I like your thinking but its not helping my gas, but two x pro 1 bodies with different focal length lenses on sounds perfect:)
