I've been thinking more and more lately of trying to get my mitts on one, but I've one nagging question. If something were to go wrong how easy/difficult is it to get the different R-D1 models serviced or get replacement parts for?

TIA.

Steve Choi of Steve's Camera in Los Angeles does some R-D1 service, but I don't think he has easy access to replacement parts.

I had great results sending mine to Epson Japan for service, using Dirk Roesler at Japan Exposures as an intermediary. (I don't speak Japanese, and there's really no other way to work with Epson Japan.) Even counting the shipping charges, it was inexpensive and great service.

Other than those options, it's not too easy to get repairs.

Search the R-D1 forum for details.

Thanks heaps for the quick response and info. I recall having read of Dirk being the one to talk to in Japan but couldn't find it again. Same goes for Steve, I had searched for "R-D1 repair" and the most recent posting was from three years ago today.
