Shot an event today and as usual I had to wedge my way thru the unpaid Photographers. Point and shoots, smartphones and an occasional DSLR, but I am really hating all the Ipad's being used as cameras. POX on them!:bang: They obstruct the view of others and just generally get in the way. Now that I think of it, I do not hate the iPad, I hate these iPad users. Just plain rude.
Counted 8 of them today. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR😀😡😀

Maybe it is time to get the photo vest, the largest DSLR and Nikon lens you can find to hang on your shoulder and shoot ... Let 'em know whose boss.🙂

BTW, what event was this?
It was an engagement party for some rich folks. They were really nice people. I shot with My M3 and Tri-X plus I had my Pentax Q in my pocket as a backup (but I did not use it). BTW Riccis Valladares, another RFF member, is a very successful BW film wedding photographer. He has given me the inspiration and courage to shoot BW film professionally.

Yeah, the iPad mini presents a lot less of an obstruction than the standard iPad does. ;-)

Seriously, tho, not much you can do other than be polite as possible, and elbow your way to a position without obstructions if you are trying to get a job done. This has been a problem for years with crowded events. The paid photographers covering the event often have to fight with hobbyists getting in the way.

When I was doing event and editorial work for hire, I would often sight through the crowd surrounding the event early on and talk to the people who were in the prime positions, enlisting their aid to allow me to slip in to get my job done while giving them space and free rein when I was in another position and they wouldn't be in the way. Making them friends and giving them advice on settings and what to look for ensured a smoother attack on the jams.

It doesn't always work 100%, but making friends of the people who would otherwise be your problem/obstructions usually makes it a lot easier to get what you need done. 🙂

At the last (& final I hope) wedding I shot I just found people in general down right rude. The bride & groom with the rest of the wedding party were posing on the church steps & some old hags just bolt right in with their cheap $89 cameras. Arms all streched out trying to get a view in the rear screen not giving a crap as long as they get their shot...not worth it too me.🙁

Next time give this a try...I know it happens with my current laptop and it might work on an ipad....
My laptop screen will go black if I trigger a flash directly at it and I have to reboot it to come back on...try this on someone's ipad and see if anything happens...

Perform some counter insurgency with large artillery: take out the F36 and shoot right next to them 🙂
Seriously if you perform at weddings and you are the dedicated photog you need to instruct the couple at first and then the guests before the action takes place. Apply a clear sign on you to let everyone know YOU are the first photog and eventually distribute some flyers around (obtain the agreement of the married couple).

I had similar idea with potato masher flash...if ipad will not reboot, at least it will melt - just set flash on full power to be sure 😀
