this, gentlemen, is why we shoot film

My wife just declared after looking at the video: it's like we're back in the 60's :)
Yeah this is pretty naive but thinking about it a little more reveals some truth.
Too bad they don't do that kind of advert for the leica MP or M7...

This must be the second or third time that this Youtube video has been featured on RFF.
Place it in its very own sticky perhaps?

At those prices it would be cheaper to build a house out of Vivitar cameras than bricks.

As cheesy as it is, the ad makes a point. I know lots of people sick with fiddly digi cameras with tiny buttons when their eyesight goes and all they want are some bloody prints of their grandsons birthday party!

Fred also made an identical ad for a "new" Kodak camera. Both the Vivitar and the Kodak are now popping up regularly on eBay (less the film), usually with a starting bid price of around $25.

I just bough Olympus film P&S with fixed focus 28mm lens for my dad. Simply because:

- he exposes roll during two or even three months. Maybe four? He isn't in rush so film is fine for him. AA cells in film camera shouldn't be recharged to take a shot after sitting idle for couple of weeks.

- he takes shots "more is better", so 28mm is what's prescribed here.

- he can't get used to AF things (half-press....watch AF light...press farther) so fixed focus again is winner.

- he likes easy loading and motorized advance so I'm not looking for fixed lens rangefinder for him.

I believe this type of cameras still are going strong and will see more use than some fancy specialist cameras.
