WOW! $726 for a NORMAL Summarit in LTM 😱

I have one JUST like this and same condition with a PRETTY RARE Bolex Cine adapter -
I love my lens, but if someone offered me $800 for it tonight.....I might take it 😉

That lens in the ebay auction was`nt anything special, not even a RARE "Taylor & Hobson" marked patent Summarit, which I could see bringing well over $700 easy

The Summarit is the most unpredictable selling lens made by Leitz - period

I recently picked one up for $275.00. It was represented as an M-mount, but turned out to be an LTM with an adapter stuck on so hard it won't come off. One person thought it must be glued on! I wish I could get it off so I could use it on both my M and LTM bodies. The lens is in beautiful condition though.
 
While 800$ is a little too much in regards to historic sales, I would say this lens is so good and has this incredibly unique signature, I don't see why it necessarily has to be cheaper then a summilux Version 1 or 2. It's a great lens and one of the all time favorites of mine (including the noctilux and 35 summilux pre-asph).

Yes, I agree, it was a lens that ignorant people bashed for years as a bad lens and now people see it`s unique signature and fine qualities when used properly - mine was on a Bolex Film camera so that must have had filmed some amazing results, it`s a fantastic lens I love it! 😀

I do not know about the ignorant part Tom, you either like the Summarit's
photographic signature or not.
I still prefere my Canon 50/1.5 over my Summarit, it is just my opinion.

Odd. I bought one (a Summarit too) years ago that had the same thing. I eventually got it off by wrapping the adapter in fabric - an old T shirt or something and twisting and grimacing and grunting. It came off but not without a lot of effort.
 
I too, noticed there is a lot of ignorance in regards to this lens. The complains I read over the years are specifically stiff focusing, weird bokhe, dirty elements, hazy images, soft and that it's an old design that has been corrected and then it became the fabled summilux.

All this is fine... But once the lens is CLA'd for 100$ or so, the lens is hard to beat. I find it almost impossible not to like this lens and its images. I can't conceive why would anybody dislike it, The focusing is heavenly, the images are unique and no other lens transmits light with such character (Noctilux has this edge wide open but quickly straightens out once stopped down while the summarit keeps its unique distinguished signature across the whole aperture range).

Too many times people have complained about this lens but when questioned further, they'd confess their lens was hazy and full of dust metal particles.

A CLA'd summarit is what the Leica magis is about. IMO.
 
A summarit is not for shooting brick walls and newspapers as it will obviously show softer edges and lower contrast. But for street shooting and even portraiture, this is where it excels with a unique twist.
 
I don't have a Canon 50/1.5 to compare it with, but the Nikkor 50/1.4 is a similar design. I sold my LTM Summarit and kept the Nikkor.

I kept the M-mount Summarit, though - bought early last year for a reasonable sum and then titivated by DAG. It really is a unique lens - but one that I fall in and out of love with periodically. I'm in an "out" phase of the cycle just now - currently doing more with the E43 Summilux and the C Sonnar.

But I love the look of images with the Summarit - especially on Efke 100, and sometimes on Lucky 100 - even my poor snapshots have a timeless character to them.
 
I got rid of my first Summarit back in 1978 and got a 50mm Nikkor in LTM to replace it.
I still have and use that Nikkor lens.

I think there should be a lock screw somewhere. Early M lenses were often LTM mount with an adapter attached via a screw.
