Proof that "life" is a video game, I remember seeing this in Skyrim!

No, life and science are so much more rich and varied than anything that can be programmed into a video game, thankfully.
I remember seeing this in the north Pacific Ocean. A bunch. You have to be in the layer to allow propagation of the mirage but it enables some fun illusions. There are a bunch of other optical effects which can superimpose objects here and there. Things over the horizon, past 7 mines away can become visible. It gets really fun when you start to involve the sensing and communications bands of the EM spectrum.
And air, is such a poor conductor of energy; what goes on underwater is another world.

I've seen similar effects looking at far-off objects (buildings, large vehicles, etc) in the desert, but of course not nearly as clearly outlined as in the posted example. That one really takes the cake!
