This picture makes me cry!

Anyone earning a living in photojournalism or wedding photography for that matter will take, make, or photoshop about any image they can get for a extra buck. Does anyone wish to see unflattering pictures of their spouse? Does the public realy have much interest in real images?

I agree with Raid. And it's not politics it's very personal to me I'm from Peru and I say please no more CIA, DEA, or US military. Few N. Americans understand what's been going on in S.Amarica. Otherwise please come visit. The photo is just an an unhappy kid with a squirt gun.

You have paid attention that there are much photographs that have photos with childrens and guns...It is a strong connection, see a boy scoring the head with one gun. It did not know this image, but its dramatic.

Jim: I am originally from Iraq, and I know what the Iraqis are enduring. This has nothing to do with playing politics or backing one party against the other. It is about family, to me. When they endure pain, I do too.

Note: I am not referring to the photo of the child playing with a gun that was posted by the O/P. I am referring to the photos posted and removed, then linked to, by someone else. The links may or may not still be here by the time I finish posting this response.

TOKYO ROSE.

In WWII, a woman of US birth broadcast in English on radio stations that could be heard by US soldiers - urging them to surrender, reporting atrocities against German and Japanese citizens, and so on. She also sounded sexy and cool and they played popular music on that station, so lots of GI's tuned in. None were fooled, though. They recognized propaganda for what it was.

Psychological warfare is old, very old. And it can be effective.

However, this is an amateur attempt. I invite the curious to investigate Iraqirabita.org. Is it a simple 'pro Iraq' website set up by Ex-Patriot Iraqis living in the UK? It would seem not if you read the articles. In fact, it would seem that they are an Islamist website - urging the kiling of infidels in Afghanistan, Chechnya, Palastine, and Iraq. Not so much anti-war or even anti-USA as anti-non-Islam. This is the website of religious extremists who urge homicide. Do you think for one second that they would tell the truth about a set of photos and what really happened?

We are supposed to believe the images are simply supressed photojournalism. The photos are linked to by a number of Islamist websites, all reporting how the bad old US soldiers shot the child's mother through the abdomen, killing the unborn baby, and then they laughed and walked away. Yes, that's what US soldiers do, they murder, laugh, and then walk away. READ THE STORIES. It's not just propaganda, it is badly-done propaganda. Except for the fact that a child DID apparently die, the only loss here is the truth.

Tell me that's not propaganda of the highest order. Tell me that does not cast doubt on the authenticity of the photos.

But there is more. I find links to all kinds of discussion websites for these photos. Seems that for the past few months, people have been playing the "I'm just posting these photos as an innocent seeker of the truth" on discussion websites all over the internet. All posted by newbies, all sounding perfectly reasonable and innocent and just stirring things up like crazy.

Tokyo Rose. So reasonable. So kind-hearted. So sexy sounding on the radio. Such an enemy of the Allies.

This, my friends, is not what it appears. Innocent post? Simple photo-journalism? Use your heads. Read the websites that link to these photos. Think about why someone would post them here. It strains credulity. "Someone sent me these photos from Iraq." Yeah, I'll bet they did. That's why they're hosted on an Islamist website.

Have you ever met a soldier of an enemy nation who wanted to kill you, and they disguised themselves and talked to you face to face? Did you think that they would not approach you sounding like a reasonable, questioning, thinking person?

Did you think that wars are only fought with bullets and bombs and planes? Do you think that you will never be directly pitched to by an enemy agent who wants to kill you for your religious beliefs - or rather, your lack of belief in their religion? Do you think you're safe from being tampered with in a very direct way?

Tokyo Rose.

Think about it.

Best Regards,

You should have read my first reaction. This *is* taking it easy.

and we thank you for that bill 😉.

after engaging in political discussion, a bit of religious discussion may i suggest some chatter on sex?

i'll start...apparently the size of my penis has made the news somewhere, it must be true as each day i receive many free offers to either enlarge it or to take viagra, sold to me at a generous discount.
this information must have been leaked by a former wife or worse, former lover.

Fair enough, Joe. If people want to look at the website that hosts the images, let them. If they think it's great, then fine. I pointed out that things are not what they appear, and motives aren't either. I'll stop now.

If youre calling me a Tokyo Rose I resent it! You do not have any right to question anyones Patriotism or motives. My motives were clearly laid out. This is a international forum and not a flag waving conspiracy contest, as such it is not up to individuals to point fingers at another or call names because they have a alternate point of view. I did refer to the pictures as " One Shot, One Kill" and I think it was a good name for the images. I will try and be cool "JAI YEN" but you dont bring out my best qaulities to say the least.

bill, to be clear/fair, my jest was not aimed specifically at you.

i just see this kind of post heading into flames eventually.

someone suggested that we have become too bland or homogenized for political debate but i think it's the very opposite. i think we have become splintered and divided into inflexible camps where real debate and the opportunity to learn from each other has vanished, where after a political debate for president or prime minister we are just further entrenched in our own preconceived ideas and to hell with even the possibility of having our eyes opened or our minds changed.

today, in a private message, someone told me that just maybe i should grow a set (my words) and be more of a forceful moderator, take charge and not let others express themselves so strongly or arrogantly (their words).

i am not by nature a patient man or one that would allow anyone to approach too closely let alone walk over me.
but i am pragmatic. i think that today, given the closed mindedness of most when it comes to sex or religion or politics that it's just a waste of time to try to 'debate' or influence anyone...because people resent truly intelligent discussion and seem to have forgotten how to engage their brain with an openness to learn.
we all want to teach but few want to learn.

sermon over...

The photo Volker posted of the crying child playing with a squirt gun is evocative. I don't know if it staged or not, as Diane Arbus' Child playing with a grenade was, but his tears look real.

The linked photos of the fetus with the gunshot wound being removed from the uterus are very clinical - like any autopsy photos you would see from anyone who died anywhere. Nowhere near as good as Steve McCurry's or Arbus', more of tabloid sensationalism.

Now, whether the US should be in Iraq or somewhere else, is not a good topic to discuss here, in a photography forum, IMHO.

True, and I don't suppose anyone will change his or her political beliefs based on what some unseen cyberperson / -photographer says. So what's the point in getting into these discussions?

I accept your resentment. Your motives may or may not be what you say they are. Well-meaning people can be duped, too, and you may be one of those - I don't claim to know. It doesn't matter to me.

Look up the term "Rabita" sometime and what it means. Your 'friends' advocate murder - not just against 'mercans, but against all non-Muslims. I do have a tiny problem with that. Bummer I looked behind the curtain, huh?

"One Shot, One Kill" is a well-known US military sniper's motto. What would you have me believe you meant by that again?

Jai Yen? Works for me.

This thread reminds me of a line spoken by actor Max von Sydow in the movie "Needful Things" as he peered out of his shop door and saw the death, destruction and mayhem he'd caused: "We're having fun now!"

Now does anyone see why I wanted to keep politics out of it?
