Concerning the Leica M8 Upgrade Program
Quote:

6. Does Leica intend to pursue this system [i.e. Upgrade Program] in the future?

The LEICA M8 Upgrade Program is designed to provide our customers with a long-term assurance of their investment, since you can always bring your camera up to date. We are presently investigating the possibility of further upgrade steps including the camera’s complete digital section, even including the sensor itself.

End of Quote.

Now, an upgrade to the sensor is something I care more about.
Perhaps upgrade to full frame?
I been looking inside the mount.
Fingers crossed. Let's hope they can do it.

But hope is a dangerous thing.

if they upgrade the sensor to full frame then they would have to alter the viewfinder in whatever way to bring the frame lines in right. Can you say "price of a new camera?"

Upgrading the framelines could be complex indeed, if not expensive,
and being expensive is particular domain of Leica.

C O O L

at same time, it is not very suprising about sensor upgrade

noctilux is expensive and leica is expensive. but it is fine for some people -read - snobs, rich boys, real avid photographers

The sensor will probbaly never be full frame in the M8 for this and many other reasons. But if you could get whatever the equivalent tomorrow is of the Nikon D3 sensor in a 1.3x crop factor and fit that in the M8, would you care if it wasn't full frame?

For those who do care that is when Leica would probably introduce the full-frame M9.

Given the posts here about an M9 at Photokina this year I wonder about the M8 "forever" announcement this week.... does Leica really know where they are going?
