Let's see if I can duplicate this here in feedback.

For some reason, if I enclose a verb ending in "ing", such as "running" in curly braces, the "ing" and the brace get bleeped out. Here' I'm gonna try it:

{runnin***

Try as I might, I sure don't notice anything that's vulgar, profane, obscene, offensive, or detrimental to homeland security, in English or any language I'm vaguely familiar with, in the string i-n-g followed by a curly brace.

I did figure out in a recent post, if I put a space between the "ing" and the brace, the result is not bleeped:

{ running }

Anybody know for sure?

Oh well ...

Ok, I'm writing this with a self-professed Vbulletin jock looking over my shoulder. I'm going to type a few phrases he wants ...

Panasonic's parent company, Matsu****a.
The chip is still bad.
Good so far, thank you.

He just said that he's seen it where a certain adjective derived from the "f-word" and ending in "ing" is commonly replaced with "****ing" in Vbulletin but never "ing" itself. He also said that the curly braces are used in the censor engine to delimit exact match no-no words, but he's never seen this thing before.

He did notice that "running" might be some kind of anagram for a very poor misspelling of a highly offensive word, but I say that's pushing it. :)

Oh well ... the curious grows more so ...

This bulletin board software, same as with the ones I manage, use "regular expression" pattern matching, to make the moderator's and operators job easier in detecting and replacing bad words.

For instance, a single entry in the banned words list such as hasselbla* would eliminate: hasselbladder, hasselbladding, and hasselblad.

Part of the "regular expressions" control lexicon includes braces. In that lexicon, the right brace is the terminating part of a specific number/set of letters to be searched for and/or replaced. My guess is that there is a bug in the "regular expressions" interpretation code for this forum's software.

In other words - this is all magic!

Well, just goes to show ya, censorship is unnatural.

...or, as some forum software might read, "cen***shi*** is un***ural"
