those pesky lens cases :(

I get these for free around the office....

They are the neoprene (wet suit material I think) drink wraps. Salesman toss them around like Mardi Gras beads. All of my LTM/M lenses fit up to and including the Leitz 90mm Elmarit and Canon 135mm. They do a good job of protecting the lenses in my bag.

Many of mine are before they were furnished, so I sewed some ultraswede.

Not a lot of protection, but for inside a bag they are sufficient and fast.

I really like that, Wayne. I have one that my wife got as a freebie at some trade show. Would love to find some more. So, if you have a stash of them I'd be more than willing to pay for shipping for a few of them. I can even give you a Texas address if that's easier. Let me know!

Thanks,
Randy

like a burrito (for lack of a better analogy) ?

You're asking an Albertan about a burrito? 😱

I may have all the neoprene koozies I need. If I run across more I'll pass them along.

The only drawback I see is the open top. On shorter lenses it would be easy enough to add some stick on Velcro dots to keep the top closed. Or fold the top down and hold it with a big, wide rubber band. Not all lens hoods fit either. The Leitz hood on the 50 DR 'cron, Heavystar hood on the Nikkor 50/1.4, C/V 75 with hood and 90 Elmarit with Leitz hood all fit. The Canon 135 hood and Konica 28mm hood won't fit.

The other use: two of these things fit perfectly around a Canon VI-T body. I slide them on from either end and they overlap in the middle. Ideally I should try the same thing with the 90 & 135 lenses which are the same length as the "case".

ps:

Color coding the "cases" for the various lenses would be the ultimate solution. Martha would be proud!

While not being exactly "rugged" - I personally dig the whole "micro fibre sunglass case" that I get from a local outdoor shop.

These are little bags that are made out of microfibre - they are not padded enough to "protect" the lens from a fall but they do stop the whole rubbing of lenses together whilst in the bag.
