Thought on selling a R-D1s

It's been years since I pulled out my R-D1s. After checking here and on another classified board, I see no traffic in these in the past year or so.
(For that matter, this board seems to have very little R-D1 action anymore.)

Anyway, would appreciate the thought of anyone out there for the best place to sell the camera and Voigtlander lenses. (50/1.5, 40/14./ 35/2.5)
The bid from B&H was silly low since I believe the glass still is in demand. Is Ebay the way to go, especially from someone like me who has only bought, but never sold on Ebay.

While I haven't followed RD-1 prices, I think that you should be able to get at least $800 for it if it isn't beat up.

Why not post an ad here and perhaps several other sites frequented by RF users?

There will surely be interest in the lenses, especially the 35/2.5, which is prized for black and white film photography.

I have always been interested in the RD-1 bodies and so have followed the activity on them...I would post it here as I feel the members understand and appreciate what the camera has to offer. BTW when they do appear they seem to sell very well. The lenses should sell very well here as all 3 are quality lenses and are used by the members and well respected.

I just bought a perfect condition 40 1.4 SC with CV hood for $329, on this site actually!
That should give you an idea as to what your gear is worth.
Depending on condition, I'd say:

40 1.4 $300 - $330
50 1.5 $350 - $450
35 2.5? Someone else could chime in as I am not familiar. I'd assume $300 ish.

A quick look at eBay shows quite a range of prices, ranging from around $500+ to $12-1300. And I only looked at sold listing for the last 60 days. Your research should include a look at eBay closed listings, reading and checking bid histories. You can do this... do a search on the camera and on the sidebar flip over to the "Sold" listings.

I looked for RD1s and ended up finding more RD1 bodies. Traffic was quite good.

As far as selling on eBay, I sell there and I teach a class on eBay selling at the local community college, about ten years now.

You could easily tap a worldwide market there, but learn how to control your sale, do a good protected listing and set an absolute reserve, once you know your bottom dollar.

You are welcome to PM me if you decide to look at eBay. This site would get a more targeted buyer base, however.

My first suggestion would be to first really get a true idea of the value, and then set a "no whimper" price..... That's what I call the reserve on eBay. That's the price you will take without crying into your pillow at night:bang:

I recently purchased an RD-1 (with a firmware upgrade to RD-1s) through the Luminous Landscape site for $800. I am very pleased with the ease of working with this camera and the quality of pictures it's providing me. After my purchase, I saw one on another site (not eBay) for an asking price of $750. I already had M-mount lenses through my use of my Ricoh GXR A-12, another camera I much favor.

i bought one last year for under $800. i love it. in fact i love it so much i'm contemplating selling my rx1 kit because i keep leaving it at home in favor of the rd1. having said that, and given the certainty that i will at some point buy another, i would look to pay $750.

I also have a RD-1s in the cupboard that has languished to the point where I may sell it.. It seems pointless to hang on to a digital camera for the sake of it because unlike a film camera it could die in it's sleep! 😀

I would list it here first at a price you believe is reasonable. If it doesn't sell, consider eBay (*kuzano's* tips above will be very helpful as you are inexperienced on the sell side).

I do believe in selling gear that's not seeing any use over an extended period of time. Lack of use doesn't favor mechanical and electrical devices; they need to run, not sit on the shelf.

I would list it here before eBay. I don't have a track record of sales on eBay and I recently wasted a lot of time perfecting a listing for a camera body. Bids failed to hit my very low reserve price, bidders were "high maintenance" (i.e. asking for lots of info), and even re-listing with a lower reserve didn't help.

Listed it on RFF and sold it to a fine fellow who understood the nice deal he was getting.

Whenever I go on a trip and take my up-to-date digital gear/lenses with me and the Epson R-D1, s or x, the latter cameras almost always produce the more interesting pictures... The Epson + Voiglander lenses produce something unique.

I have had three, sold two, regretted both of those sales and bought another. There's no other digital camera like it. I say keep it.

Wow. Some great suggestions here. I saw what my gear was fetching on Ebay, but couldn't see past sales here. I will definitely post here as soon as I can. Of course, reading all this makes me want to keep my gear, especially the Nokton 50mm/1.5. I got some great photos with that and love the handling. But unless I spring for, say, a Fuji X-T1 and an adapter for the Voigtlander glass, those lenses have to be sold. And I own a Canon 60d, which is fine, though a little soulless, so there's no excuse, or money, for a new camera that takes the Voigtlander lenses. Since I bought the Fuji X100s in 2013, the R-D1s hardly gets used.

I have the X-T1 and the Fuji X-M adapter. With Leica glass, there's nothing like it. I have also had excellent results with Zeiss (Contax RF), Canon RF and Pentax-A* glass. It is such a flexible camera, which produces superb images...and with a few good adapters I can use over forty of my existing lenses. I will be experimenting for months! Food for thought...
