I'm considering a P7000. Have firmware updates helped with focus lock and slowness issues? Or are they not as problematic as the forums make out in the first place?

Don't trust the forums, the P7000 is a nice little machine. The firmware update has mad significant improvements too.

My M5s need red dots!
The P7000 is a competent P&S with an optical viewfinder. If you already know what to expect from this type of camera, the P7000 is fairly decent. As noted above, it can be set to shoot RAW. It's also extremely portable, and has a bit of a retro look to it.

Thanks fellas. Kind of deciding between that and the G12. I like the images I've seen from the P7000 a lot. I'd say even a bit above the G12 in IQ generally, though I think I'd be happy with either one.
The optical view finder, even if not that good by slr standards, or rangefinder standards, is still desirable. I don't like the lcd for composing.

P7000 ordered. Should be here next Wednesday. I've tried the S95, but found it too small and fiddly. I own a Ricoh GRD3 and was looking for something with a longer reach and good physical controls. Buttons, wheels, view finder, etc, otherwise the LX5/D-Lux5 would have been in the running. I don't mind a little bigger camera.
