Thoughts on Sheltering IN

I do a lot of radio listening, a lot more than before last week. I've always been a radio geek. Now I wish I got my Ham license. It was something that I began maybe 25 years ago but joined the Navy and let that old hobby go by the wayside. Anyway...
I've cleaned a lot of stuff. The house, dishes, laundry. I got a bug-out-bag ready for Bethanne and myself each. I built a table a few days ago. We walked a few miles west over to our grave garden in the Woodlands Cemetery and spent a long afternoon there getting things ready for the summer. There are a lot of bulbs that have come up. A few different types of narcissus are coming up. Our rose "bush" got trimmed back to a rose stick.
One of these days soon, I need to change the oil on my car. I also have 800 feet of 35mm film to bulk load. Then there's ~300 rolls of exposed film to develop, mostly 35mm but some 120 in there as well
Aside from that, we're taking a lot of photos of our cats.

As for the future, we're both wondering what the heck is going to come of the last few months of our master's degree programs, respectively. Current law says that we have to be licensed to legally engage in tele-health without direct supervision but it seems like the ACA has relaxed the rules a bit in order to bring counseling to millions of people who need it. Supposedly the VA is going to stand behind me and make sure I have the funding to support the rest of my program, no matter how long it takes, we'll see.

I'm here at work.

Financial industry is deemed "essential" so my company, being the ubbbber frugal our infrastructure can't handle everyone working from home, or sharing video over Skype. SO....we are running one week for half, sanitize, then one week at home.

On the VERY positive side, this is one of the first times in twelve years I have a full time job.

I'm wasting the day surfing the 'net...as usual.

The governor has ordered residents to stay at home as of 5:00 pm today until otherwise notified. We will only be allowed to shop for groceries, carry out food, drugstore items and other items deemed necessary(?). We can still go for walks and go outside but no visiting recreational areas. I was to have another back procedure done today but it was postponed because it has been deemed "elective". So I've called in to request another prescription for pain killers. May as well make plans for the worst. But I have an adequate supply of single malt scotch on hand...for emergencies.

We have had lots of rain lately and our landscape guy hasn't been able to get our lawn mowed. He also does another yard on our block. Guess which houses have grass and weeds up to the knees with no mowing likely in sight now. Maybe that means I'll have a new outdoor activity--target practice on snakes and pests living in my front yard jungle. I guess I could try my hand at some wildlife and nature photography.

In Victoria, we've been strongly recommended to stay at home and only go out for shopping and other essential activities. I agree with this completely, as it will help stop the the spread of the virus and we can get back to healthy and normal sooner rather than later.

Today, I'm doing what I always do, edit at home. Aiming to finish a project tonight. Today will include some laundry and cleaning, too. It's actually a lovely day today, with some warm sun and a cool breeze. Would be good for a walk, or at least some outdoor exercise. Might sweep the paths, there's an idea. Rambling now, hahaha.

Pretty much the same here! But only a little rain. Our landscape guy came by as he's just returned from his usual winter stay in Mexico where he's building a house. But our lawn has not yet come awake...

On a one-mile walk today around the neighborhood for exercise I encountered a dozen or so people out and about. Said hi to a geology prof from the uni, gave a young man directions, met a retired orthopedic surgeon also out on exercise... And found a piece of mail in the street from the state employment security agency addressed to a house half a block up, so rang the doorbell and delivered it by hand... my "good turn for the day."

Otherwise, low traffic volume, unusually quiet out there...
 
I've got 100 feet of TMax100 coming to feed my Leica habit. My exile in Main Room is not so bad I think. I'm on a 20 acre property, so there's quite a lot of external room, and the weather is very warm at the moment in West Aus.

This is eerily similar to a story told to the class by Mr. Burkhart, a science teacher I had in Jr. high school. I was in 7th grade when he shared the story of someone who "had to go" in the woods and used some poison ivy for TP. Of course, we 7th graders laughed ourselves silly when he told us about it.

I still remember this incident even though it's been over 50 years ago.
 
I have been
-taking very long walks with my dog
-buying takeout at restaurants to help local business (one of them is offering 1/2 off)
-working on some knitting projects that need to be completed by April 30th
-working on client tax returns (but not too hard as the tax deadline has been pushed back to July 15th)
-watching TV but not watching the news all the time
-uploading the images from my Ghost Towns of the Mojave workshop, which was just completed on March 14th
-post processing the images from the Ghost Towns workshop
-taking advantage of seniors only shopping hours at Costco
-making my own hand sanitizer
-washing my hands frequently throughout the day
 
Overhauled two more of my Ektagraphic slide projectors (so far). Reworking an old multiprojector slide show that was never quite right. Trying to do therapy over the telephone.
 
I will probably tackle repairing my Rolleimarin underwater-housing fully. And also tackling a bunch of other camera and lens repairs. I guess I could also try shooting macros inside. I dunno...

DO IT. You will regret not taking this opportunity. I'll be doing it as part of a project, and I'll keep doing it until/if we are told to stay indoors otherwise.
Just keep yourself well protected, don't touch anything, wash hands etc etc.

Sorry to hear that news, Joe, but if it's any cold comfort I think you're in plenty of company. We're under "stay at home" orders but that still allows solitary walk-abouts without needing some approved reason. I was out today with my camera for a 1-mile bit of exercise. Hopefully your situation will be similar.

I agree with the others--try to get out as often as possible. Other wise you'll have cabin fever and start climbing the walls. With my back problems, I still try to get out and wander up and down the block at least once a day, always taking a camera and almost always finding something to photograph. It's interesting how many times I've seen the same thing without noticing it and then one day it's suddenly different and worth taking a picture.

The good news is my lawn guy called me and said he is coming today to do the yard work. I guess since he's outside and not socializing with the public, he's comfortable working.
 
I planted the spring garden yesterday, tomatoes and peppers, squash and cucumbers next. It was 87f yesterday afternoon. My son & I are going to go out today somewhere isolated and shoot the cameras, and the gun.
 
I am on my second week in house: being in a more risky age group my wife and me preferred to stay home even a few days before the mandatory request.

My workplace has never been so clean and organized!

I spend time on the internet, I have many books to read or read a second time, many photos to reorganize in the LR catalog which I share with my wife, i like drawing, one hour daily exercise on the stationary bicycle hoping to stay fit enough...

To be honest I feel ok at home, of course I miss the long walks in the nature and the expresso at the cafeteria behind the corner !
 
Was in quarantine due to a flu that began 2 weeks ago, and have been able to go out during this week. The flu itself lasted only a day but full recovery and residual coughing took its time.
Don't really want to catch something similar again anytime soon.

I'm actively going outdoors but activities are focused on nature, still having some limited social contact keeping distances.

Have quite some work at home things that I should deal with, but cabin fever easily takes toll on me and I become unproductive if locked up. Helps to be out just 2-3h out a day.

Living carefully and day to day.
 
Been out for walks everyday, my neighborhood is usually pretty quiet, much quieter this last week. We are now under a stricter stay at home order, but outdoor time is encouraged as long as we are able to keep away from others. That’s easy enough here.

I don’t have much ability to concentrate on my photography, that part of my brain needs more calm than is within reach right now. My wife is an OR nurse and has been called into work in the new Respiratory ICU twice, going back again Saturday. Bedside nursing again after ten plus years in the OR. That is the main reason for my stress level being where it is. We are both over 50, so we’ve eliminated any other interactions with people.

I have been able to play music, so have been recording a bit. My mind is able to get caught up in the sound and so that has been a godsend.
