Thoughts on ZI film catch and rewind

Today it dawned on me why the film back catch on the ZI is no big deal to me - it's because if you are a Rollei 2000 0r 3003 user its the same very safe mech that was employed to attach cell packs to the film back of possibly the best ever Zeiss designed camera (yes Rollei got the prototype when they aquired voigtlander)

Given this and an upside down film rewind like a Rollei 35 maybe we should stop comparing the ZI to Leica but regard it as a new direction and even evolution of the Z,R,V trinity

Long may even japanese cameras be spelt with a K

Thanks, Quercus. Good information. Just to clarify, are you referring to the latch on the back door?

Good observations about the similarities to the Rollei 2000. The shape of the body, the bottom rewind, & the AE are all reasons why this has also bee compare to a Minolta CLE - perhaps a stretched version of the CLE.

Rollei also used this type of back latch on some of the film magazines for the SL66.
