thread about light, instead of gear...

A lack of light can be fun too.

I don't know what this is other than abstract. It was the first exposure on a roll I shot with a Leica IIIa using Kodak C-41 B&W film. It looks like a ceramic jar to me but we don't own anything like this.

Hey Rich, whatever, it's certainly no difference but at least we are seeing some pics here and i'm happy about that!
Come on, let us know what you have to say about light and show us what you can do with it... like this pic of the 3 guys climbing up the stairs!

True. It's always good to see some photos here taken BY the cameras that we all feel so strongly about. 🙂

Hum, do you mean this one?

If so that image does mean something to me. It's from the very first roll I ever put through my Leica M3 when I bought it 2-3 years ago.

The event was San Francisco's Gay pride parade.

I'm not saying this is a great photo in any way but there was a 'thought' behind it and it was to find a dark area with some very concentrated light shining into it. I found this staircase, lined myself up so that I had the railings providing somewhat of a leading line into the light - and waited for someone to walk into the patch of light.

Sounds more cumbersom than it was - from setting up to taking the photo I'd say it was all 'over' in 45seconds 🙂

I'm a big fan of light, and I like this thread. A couple of photos from a business trip last week -- Fuerth in southern Germany, and Vienna.

Yeah RIch, this one! I saw it on Flickr and I liked it. The story is nice too, the first time is always special, isn't it...
I am a sucker for people coming in the light from a dark area (I have a too many pics like that!). I appreciate my incident meter in those cases!!

Another one for the road...

When I was younger, and a beginner, I bought into the idea that softer light was better. Open shade, window light, that kind of light. But as I get older, I like directional, even harsh, light even better. In this photo, I like the way the light seems to blast in through the windows and commands the attention of the people facing the windows.

Morgan, I also think it's important to have a mix of gear and photography but honestly how different is this thread to any other w/nw threads here?

I completely agree. I guess I was hoping for talk and pics. I'm a relative noob and there's so much knowledge here, and not just about gear. I feel like i get a lot out of a good discussion on technique and ideas...

If you wanted "for talk and pics", perhaps you could have set the tone from the start, by actually talking about your picture, instead of just saying "here". Instead, you just posted a picture (nice, btw), but without any discussion yourself. So I don't think it's the fault of RFF you can't find the talk you can't find. Usually the initiator sets the kind of talk he/she has in mind. I didn't see any talk...

What talk did you have in mind?

🙂 and how different are w/nw threads from the gallery? 🙂

I prefer w/nw as I like browsing at photos according to a theme, and seeing how different people interpret the theme.
