Three days witha Bessa-R

For the poster asking about FSU lenses, the shots I posted were all with an Industar 61 l/d. As far as the meter goes, I guess I just don't like the way it presents the information. This is comparing apples to oranges, but my work cameras (EOS-1D series) allow me to see how far off I am by up to three stops in either direction in 1/3 stop increments, as have other slr's (mechanical and elctronic/digital) I have owned. I mutch prefer a needle, or digital approximation of a needle. I guess I'm just spoiled. On the other hand, exposure lattitude in print films is a lot more than I can get away with in digital, so metering is less crucial.

I also got my 28 ultron, and it is a fantastic lens. Construction is superb, at least as good as some of my canon L lenses. Image quality is very good, even wide open. I might get some pictures from that posted soon.

Unfortunately for voigtlander fans, a deal on an M2 with a 50 'cron popped up, so I might be selling the body, then again, I find the R to be superb camera overall.

I'ved been offered a black Bessa R with very little usage markings for £125 (US$250). I have a Jupiter 8 already to attach to it. Is this a good deal or should I carry on looking?

I just got one for slightly under $200, the black/chrome one. Seems like it's in excellent condition. I've been seeing most for a bit over $200. Not sure that helps...

I paid $200 for a scruffy but functional silver R in 2005. I later bought a new silver R for, IIRC, $250. The black finish is a little more expensive, and the R has been out of production for several years. I think it's a good price. The R is a great camera, and I think you will get a lot of joy using it with a Jupiter-8. I've used: Industar-61ld, Jupiter-8, Jupiter-3, Jupiter-9, and the Jupiter-11 with my R, and have always been happy with the results. I also have the CV 35mm f/2.8 Skopar and CV 28mm f/3.5 Skopar: those two are real gems -- well made, compact, great contrast, and extremely sharp.

$250 for a good, clean Bessa R seems fine to me. If you wait or barter for a cheaper one, the time may never come, the cheaper camera may be in worse condition needing a CLA and ultimately costing more. YMMV.

If you're spoiled, then I am too. The match-needle is by far the best exposure indicator ever invented, and my only real criticism of the Bessa-R is that the LED indicators are far inferior - I'm spoiled by Pentax Spotmatics and Olympus OMs.

The Bessa (black) that I started this thread about I got on the classifieds here for $175. Cosmetically not perfect, but who cares.

The attached picture is a slightly cropped shot taken with the 28 Ultron. Bonus points if you can tell me where it was taken (Its not Mesa Verde, but it is close.
