Leica recently updated their 28mm Elmarit, 28mm Summicron, and 35mm Summicron. Does anybody here have experience with the new lenses? I know they have metal hoods/caps and feature a slightly improved optical design, but how much of an improvement are they really? Obviously somebody who already has a previous version probably won't want to upgrade, but for somebody looking for a new focal length is the redesigned lens worth the slight premium?

Sean Reid reviewed the new 28 Summicron on his subscription site. Corner performance is substantially improved over that of the older lens, with minor improvements elsewhere. Were I shopping for a 28 'cron I would get the new version. If corner performance is not a factor then I suspect the older version can be purchased at a more attractive price.

I'm really curious about the performance of the new 28mm Elmarit. I recently purchased version IV of the pre-ASPH 28 Elmarit, but this new version looks really attractive. Anyone had any experience with it yet?
